Boom mountiing Scotty Orca's

Look at the photos on the page before. Do you see that little nipple or whatever you want to call that thing on the bottom end of the holder that chews up the rod handle? That thing does not exist anymore on the newer model. It's all a smooth tube now. That's why I had never issues with any damage to my rods in more than 1.5 years. And maybe in conjunction with fixing this issue they made also changes to the opening mechanism so that the holders can't open themselves anymore by accident.

I spoke to the guys at Scotty about the issues I've been having with my Orcas chewing up the rods. The model with the little nipple IS the most current version of the Orcas. The little nipple was added to help keep the Orcas closed when used on the port side under pressure as the top side of the rod holder receives some decent pressure from the rod butt which could cause accidental opening when you get a big strike.

I'm going to try running the port side holder upside-down. That way the little nipple wont be digging into the rod grips all the time.
