Why does it seem like every bayliner with an inboard for sale have a new engine or fresh rebuild? I don't want one, it just seems like a common theme.

Not mine but complete engine, gauge, controls, under warranty... wish I had the cash and didn't mind breaking the max hp recommendation on my boat.

I was out in my buddies boat today, just went from twin 250’s to 300’s on his 30 footer. Not going to lie to you, it’s nice to go 40mph.

I would call that adequately powered, some guides run that sized boat or close with a single 300, 550 hp should be fine.
