Boat launch mishaps

Late one afternoon while staying at an undisclosed fishing camp, we decided my boat needed a new bow line. We set about removing the old one after unhooking the winch and back straps and before too long had a nice new one in place.
A few beers later, the BBQ was ready and steaks went on.
Woke up in the morning eager to get out and catch fish , jumped in the truck and a minute later i'm poised to back down & launch at a 45 degree ramp at low tide.
One of the worst things i can remember was the sound of rollers spinning wildly just before my boat hit the concrete ramp. [:0]
Turns out in my preoccupation with beers and dinner, i hadn't reattached my winch line or my tiedowns.
Feeling like an idiot, i was able to recruit a few kind souls who helped me
winch the trailer back under the boat grinding her poor bottom across the ramp. :(

I love rollers, but one must remember to keep the safety chain on till the boat is in the water.

I watched a fellow chat up a guy while his friends unstraped the boat. Including the safety chain and winch. Boat was on rollers and when he put the truck in reverse guess what. The boat looked like it was on plinko board going down between the cement walls. OUCH

these mishaps happen all over

Not an uncommon mishap at the Bear Cove ramp in Port Hardy a couple of years ago. Not sure if the problem has been fixed.

Steep, slick concrete ramp with algae all over it.. Sploosh!! Brakes dont help one little bit under these circumstances Three vehicles in one season. Dont know why ICBC didnt refuse to cover the losses as it was a known hazard.

I now launch at the Harbour ramp and pay a few bucks-- worth it to avoid having the truck and camper going swimming..

I saw a guy with his nice new rig on a bunked trailer take all his straps and safety chain off at the top of the ramp! 3 guys and i were cleaning fish and saw him start backing up and each bump the boat slid furthur back! We all started yelling and he finally stopped and someone told him how to do it properly.

The first time we launched our boat we didnt put a plug in the bottom and we put the fuel line on backwards! [B)] Made it to the breakwater then the engine conked out and we paddled our water logged boat in. Live and learn!

One of my first jobs was at Anchorage in Nanaimo. I ran travellift and painted bottoms. One day I was launching a new 30'Searay using the travellift. I let the boat down in the water lightly hanging on the straps, I then went in for lunch. When I came back, I realized I forgot to put the plug in. The thing was literally half full of water, it was a Major! Brand new upholstery, starter, alternator etc... Guess what, Ive never forgot to put the plug in another boat. Unfortunately, most of my best lessons have been learned the hard way.[V]

if using one lane boat launch ramp during the busy fishing season with a really long lineup early in the morning...if a vehicle's alternator dies out while pushing the boat out in the water.......

YIKES! [B)]

HaHa love it Smiley!

That would an agonizing wait for the towtruck.

Ironnoggins got a funny one from Clutesi a couple years back complete with photos, wondering when thats coming. "What did you guys do to my boat!"
