Boat interior flooring options

Hi guys,

I currently have carpet and hated it. It attracts stains and mold grows on it crazy every winter. What are some of the options I can have to replace it and where to buy them? Nuteak? marine vinyl?

Thanks!

Have a few options.

Nuteak is 50 bucks a square foot. Ouch.

Vinyl plank flooring runs anywhere from a 1.50 to 6 bucks a square foot.

Heavy rubber puzzle lock gym flooring. For the more industrial work / fish boat function.

It's either that or prep the surfaces and apply gel coat heavy making non skid surface. Alot of work though

All I can think of

It's a fiberglass campion Victoria 215
My fibreglass deck was pretty worn. Went with the heavy 3x3 black rubber mats you see on fish boats. Didn‘t like that option as they shed a lot of rubber particles, didn’t drain well and were heavy to move around for cleaning.

Decided to paint my deck with non skid deck paint and am very pleased with it for over 5 years. I mask and re-paint with a roller every 2-3 years or so. It’s inexpensive, low labour, you can do it yourself. Decided to go this way after fishing on Viking charter boat in Hawaii that had just been re-done. Only downside is shoes or boots with black rubber soles tend to mark it, and marks have to be scrubbed off. Boat shoes, most rubber boots are okay. Bonus is good footing when wet or a bit bloody or slimy.

I redid our cabin floor. It was worn out carpet before, green, thin and ugly. I put in waterproof, mahogany finish LVP. It was quite a job fitting it, especially on the curved stairs. I had to bend a profiled oak nosing for each one, then stained and finished them to match the plank colour. I used a heat gun, gently, to bend the planks into the contours. I fitted the planks tightly at the edges, using templates. No trim required. The area is small so expansion out to the edges is not an issue. I glued the edges, just to keep it all locked into place.

After a year, no issues, easy maintenance and it looks fantastic!

Deckadence marine flooring is pretty nice looking stuff there’s a dealer in north van

Any chance of see a pic?

I used kiwi grip when I redid the floor on my hourston, I’m fairly happy with it, holding up well I use my boat weekly and pressure wash it after every use really easy product to work with and you can touch up spots/re apply anytime if it were to wear down in the future, you can also tune it to your liking by making it more aggressive or less aggressive of a non skid floor. Also comes in different kits and colour options.

I ordered some EVA foam flooring from Amazon for $99 a sheet, used 2 sheets. It’s a Seadek knockoff at 1/3 the cost. For $200 and a few hours of work I’m pretty happy with the result.

Here are some finished shots:

To install, I laid down some cellophane wrapping paper (unlike poly, it will not stretch, so it is great for stencilling). Mylar is what you want to use ideally, but it’s really expensive, the cellophane works just as well at a fraction of the cost.

Then you transfer to the sheet of EVA foam, cut it, and lay it down (my sheets came with double sided adhesive on them).
