Hey Guys

My buddy from up north has asked me to taking him Salmon fishing this summer, he has never gone before. I live in the Okanagan so Van island or Central coast around the same drive for me. We will be fishing from a 20 foot boat and will most likely be camping in a wall tent. Any ideas, areas or camp sites would be great.

Thanks

Port Renfrew 2 hrs from sooke b.c

If the Fraser sockeye are open next year..target them on the inside of Vancouver island. Browns Bay or Sayward. Great FUN fishery! If they are not open try Port Alberni for Chinooks

Planning well in advance is a good Idea for the popular spots on Vancouver Island. South island and the west coast have some excellent locations. Bamfield and Uclulet get some excellent fishing and well as Port Renfrew and Sooke. East coast Van island can be good but I would rather hit some of the west coast locations instead. Just my $.02 :)

Sooke will offer you some good opportunities. Poett Nook or China Creek (Bamfield/Alberni) offers you good value for the money.

If you're interested in a quiet, close to shore experience with amenities, you can actually go for the mouths of the big and little Qualicum Rivers. That is an under rated fishery and if you know what you're doing, you should be able to put a few in the box. Lots of amentities and all services. OR....if you want...Vancouver in late August can easily keep pace with other inshore locations on the coast---you will have to be dialed in and know your stuff tho. However, the fishing will be more challenging than Sooke or Alberni.

Depends on what you're looking for..how much money do you want to spend etc...

what about the north island in late Aug? Would you guys think late june is better the late aug?

Others will chime in I am sure........I would say late Aug...Renny. Late June.... North Isle

I know fishing is fishing but would late June up north island have more going on the lat aug in renny? I think that in late aug in renny there should be alot of Coho around? There may be Coho in late june up north also?

Late Aug in Renfrew (and area) Is a good time

I went to the port renfrew campground web page and I was looking at the moorage. They were talking about tides and a river, is the marina up river and if so whats it like to get in and out? I get sea sick offshore if its rough, is renny normal ok weather or is it a crap shoot?

Thanks

I'd say port alberni is calmer water(less puking) but as other's said it seems to be a gamble the last few years. Renfrew would be great but the swell and chop can pick up there. Is it too late for nootka sound, maybe a little dark but are they all boots by then?

Nothing wrong with sooke....good as any close to town lots of accomidations as you probablly wont be able to go anywhere in aug for halibut and little or no swell...
Good luck wolf

Maybe staying on the main land and doing a Salmon/Sturgeon trip on Vancouver Chuck and the Fraser would be the ticket. In late Aug there should be Springs, Pinks and maybe Sockeye around and the timing might be just right.

That is a good time for Pinks, springs and especially the start of dino fishing!!!

Make it as late as possible in August (beginning of September is better!!!)
