BC Ferry gets caught in fishing net.

40 years ago I was gillnetting with my Dad in the Straits of JDF at night and a Navy minesweeper ran over our net despite radio calls and trying to get his attention with a spotlight. It was fairly intense and I thought our little 24’ bowpicker was going to be towed under but the old man was able to get the line cut just in time. Very scary **** for a 13 yo. Not sure what that gilnetter was thinking making a set in the ferry lanes.

I know what he was thinking, because I have seen it!
He was thinking that nice open spot would be great to set his net.
He did not think that the other boats were pulling their nets because a freakin ferry was bearing down on them.
Gillnetting the Fraser River, we pulled our net back off the line of the ranges, we were the first of six boats to pull.
Nice open spot right on the ranges, so a 'new' fisherman with no english sets right down the middle where the six nets were just pulled.
Seaspan rail ferry then goes off the ranges and nails our net and two others!

I miss gillnetting a lot, don't miss that shi! though.
