Bamfield Road

drove in on monday and unfortunately pulled up to a medi vac helicopter taking someone to victoria.

i would like to see the numbers of "accidents" and information on severity after this year and the following years. this being the first that is open now. i see the overconfidence now in drivers every trip.

Drove out yesterday, road was fine but its giving people the confidence to drive way too fast for the conditions. Lots of Blind Corners, and yield section where if someone with a large vehicle or boat in tow is out of control and taking the middle of the road you have no where to go.

What’s the average driving time from Port Alberni to Bamfield (no trailer)?
Thanks
Stosh

old thread, but doing some next summer 2026 planning. Is there any wash down hose available at the Bam launch? Love running the inlet but timing may work better for one trip to drive to Bam. Hate leaving trailer sit for four days with salt on the brakes/springs

call breakers or walk in, and ask politely. there is a hose/bib in the corner of the lot. maybe buy something you need while you are in there. bring a gun for it. metered water.

Take Garden sprayer with saltaway mixed in water. Spray brakes and springs

Or just drive the canal then no saltwater on trailer. Way better in my opinion then driving in. Especially if these fires are the new norm.

Way better launch and parking .

Thanks all. Yea I totally agree, love the launch in the river. And the boat ride is pretty damn enjoyable. The drive out may just give more flexibility to avoid midday winds. I’ve never done the drive.

The owner of Lady Rose Services has provided a marine taxi service on a schedule. Also added if a local wants to take the francis barkley, it is free. getting to appointments etc has just become possible. Thank you Lady Rose Services!!

road block today organized by locals in protest of select users being allowed to use the bypass. forestry , some friends, hydro, rcmp have all been granted access. you have to get a permit and be on a list. when asked on how or what is needed to get on the list, all of a sudden essential services words are used. BS !!!! we all have essential services needed or to be done.

ACRD Emergency Program

Please see the public statement provided by MosaicForests regarding the Bamfield Main Road closure.

"Mosaic is aware of reports of a public convoy planning to travel to the closed Bamfield Main Road. Please note that this road remains temporarily closed while crews complete necessary safety repairs to enable the reopening of the road as soon as possible. During this time, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) has approved only one alternate route— via Carmanah Main/North Shore Road through Youbou.

MOTT has not declared any logging roads in the area safe for public use. Industrial radio-controlled logging roads can carry significant risks for the general public including trucks carrying heavy loads, steep grades, narrow single-lane rough roads and uneven surfaces. As such, safety gates are installed to prevent unauthorised access.

Any access to the gated roads is strictly prohibited and can create dangerous situations for all drivers, including workers, and cause delays for the completion of work necessary to reopen Bamfield Main Road. Mosaic Forest Management continues to support MOTT efforts to safely reopen Bamfield Main Road, with a reopening planned for the end of the month."

A message from the Emergency Operations Centre:
We ask the public to please use the official alternative route while officials work to re-establish the Bamfield Main Road. Public safety is the top priority for all collaborating agencies, including Mosaic, First Nations, local governments, and provincial bodies. We continue to work cooperatively to ensure the road is open safely and as quickly as possible. Until the Bamfield Main Road is open, the only available alternative ground route is the road via Carmanah Main/North Shore Road through Youbou. All efforts are being made to reopen the Bamfield Main Road as soon as possible, and MOTT remains on track to complete the work by the end of October.

Take care. Stay Informed. Be Safe.

Ridiculous the main road looks fine.
I meant mosaic/goverment looks bad in the sense that there are way better options either the main road or the bypass vs half a day+ detour that is rough and breaks **** on your vehicle/trailer. Major roads in the past have been kept open while serious work has transpired and the public travels mosaic roads daily so I can't see a reasonable excuse for either option.
