Bamfield/Barkey winter reports 09/10

Hey guys, thanks for the reports. Have you been picking up any feeders close to the Nook & Bamfield, or is a run to the north side of the sound required.

I've only run north one day so far and that was to Chrow and it was good.

All the other fishing we have been doing has been from Bamfield harbour out to the whistle buoy and surfline. Until that dries up there just hasn't been a need. I did do one tack at Meares last week, but nothing.

Also been hearing some murmurs of fish down in Vernon Bay. Last couple seasons hadn't been as good as usual so hopefully that has changed.

Small spoons have been the ticket for me.

Good luck! Where will you be coming from?

Thanks for the info Osama. I live in Vancouver, so I usually don't get over too often in the winter. The times I have fished there in Feb/March we usually fished Vernon Bay and did quite well. I have time off at spring break, which coincides with your derby. So there's a chance me and my oldest son will head to the Nook then. In the mean time good luck, and thanks for all the reports.

Hey Jeff, weather is looking like she will settle down. I may try to take a run up this weekend for some playing around. Anything doing?

So yea Pat, she's worth the trip down the inlet all right! Supposed to be a great weekend too. Gimme a call if you do come this way.

Kelly - Some do my friend. Some do.

Craig - I think his beard rubbed off on Valentines day while performing the getting-fishing-permission task that you taught him about!

Rob - Cool, Sheldons coming that way this weekend and I was having him come there for a few things. Will you be in the shop? He'll have a nice fresh piece of flattie for ya!

Jeff, its looking like Saturday. Not sure if we will get all the way out to Bamfield. I was going to try out front of Headquarters for a few winters...they sometimes hang there or a little further down if the bait is in there.

Dust off this thread ,
Can't believe the very few reports, and lack of discussion of the Past Sproat Lake Loggers Derby , Excellent turn-out , Great weather till Sunday weigh-in , We fished in T's , fricken Sun Burn in March , lol,,, Fishing was much better than last year overall , alot more fish at OUR tables anyway . Searun , you weren't kidding about the Canal Debris from the High's we just had , I know of 3 direct heavy hits , one boat alone , hit 3 times , broke the last in half . One being lucky enough to make it it to the nook ramp ,hauled out as she was takin on water , VERY lucky indeed. No Injuries as far as we know.
Never did here much of the Mill's boy's on our side , Seen Rob's post , Good Times... ( look like shark tracks buds, Thanks PNT for taking care of us , )

fished 2 morning`s , we boated 6 fish from 6lbs to our largest of 15 lbs , lost a couple at the boat ,[V]..all fish were on Anchovy exclusively , 130 to 150 feet , Vernon , Diplock and Kirby produced for us , Sarita was DEAD , 29.5 lbs was the the unbeatable winner on Saturday, weighed in at Poett Nook !! did not fish Sunday lol , we prawned , Crabbed , and went and harvested some clams and oysters , AWESOME weekend , Did Jeff`s derby happen ..[?].. who won ,,[?]

A few Pics , Cheers,,FD..;)

Hey FD, I'm really sorry I missed the big party. I was hanging at the Tradex Show working the Normark/Rapalla booth, so I missed all the fun. Perhaps next year there won't be a conflict in dates. I sure would have liked to meet a few of the guys on this board so we can put faces to handles etc. Hopefully things will heat up in next few weeks when those Columbia River chinook hit the coast. There are a ton of them coming, so we should load up in mid April. Appreciate hearing the reports and pictures!! Bring it on gents.

Well guys I planned on giving you a fresh report here from Barkley this morning as Osama and I were going to hit the water again this weekend, but the weather gods were not looking fondly upon us and she was blowing like a ******* all weekend. You could have surfed Brady's Beach.

So new new info from Barkley today, except that there may be crab and prawn traps floating around where you don't expect them.

So haven't been out since the Saturday of the derby, storm came and came and came...

Woke up this morning to sunshine and calming seas. Gonna do some beachcombing this afternoon, likely drag the spoons a little as well. Whole weekend looks good for any adventures thinking of heading to the sound.

Will be announcing our first early season SFBC special for April shortly. Will be a hali/ling day I'm thinking...

Letcha know as she goes.

Weather is looking very good for the weekend...I'm going to start doing some serious thinking and organizing around a cabin trip so if you happen to get out I would appreciate any reports.:)
