area 19/20 slot restrictions revisited

I've read this a few times trying to decipher the meaning,

"Then effective June 19 until July 15, 2010 the daily limit is two (2) Chinook Salmon per day of which only one (1) Chinook may be greater than 67 cm. The minimum size limit in these areas is 45 cm."

At first i took it to mean it was legal to keep a wild over 67cm. and any size hatchery fish.
In fact, it would appear that whether wild or hatch, you can only keep one over 67cm. the other has to be less.

Am i on the right track here ??

Thats the way i see it.

You can take any type of Chinook max 2 per day. One has to be within the 45-67 CM range, and, the other 45 or larger. That's the way I read it.

I believe it is one over and under.

Hatchery vs wild is not relevant.

I just called fisheries because this is not clear enough,
the answer is "one over 67cm and one under."
it makes no difference wild or hatch.
If you bonk one over and choose to keep fishing , you may not retain
another chinook unless it is under 67cm.

at first they want to protect wild fish, which i can understand.
now they let you kill 2 wild fish as long as one is under ??

I just don't see the point in this whole exercise ??

As far as I know nothing further is planned after that. But maybe Governor knows more...?

Well the way i read it then it will be back to normal as then the ETF will be gone.
This problem will never go away people it will be here for a long time there is meeting today with some people we are going to have to work with DFO to try and keep it open for us next year and solutions not fighting them as they seem to shut down if we do time for change my friends time for change!!!!!!!

Oh, I agree Wolf - these spring, early summer slot size restrictions as we have them now will be around for quite some time - I have no doubts about this. But there is nothing planned for August/Sept etc for now...

That's good news for summer ... back to "normal" fishing for the hot days hopefully.

Sooke News Mirror printed a colour map of openings and closures along Juan de Fuca, east coast and to Fraser. I still don't understand how it protects early run Fraser springs to close Juan de Fuca until mid-June, but leave east coast VI and other areas towards the Fraser open. Where else are all those early season Nanaimo springs heading?

I am ok with conservation measures ... if a run is really in trouble, then let's band together to do what we can to fix it. But this makes no sense to me.

Am I missing something? [and assuming not, no need to go over old ground once again...grumble grumble, whinge whinge, on to other things [xx(]]
