OK the anchor ball works like a charm, I've pulled up my anchor in over 200 ft of water without a hitch, but for those who really get stuck, try this:
1 - increase the number of links in your chain - it's not the anchor that holds you in place, but the links on your rope. the anchor only pulls the lead down, the chain hold the lead in place, and the anchor acts only as anchor point
2- drill a 5/8" hole on the back of the anchor and connect the anchor chain there and back line the chian up the anchor with nylon tie straps. So if you have gotten stuck, by pulling up with the anchor ball, the nylon tie straps break, and lead and chain pull the anchor out from the forward the catching end of the anchor, instead of the attachment end. Once the straps break, you pull the anchor out backwards - the big end first, like pulling a hook out from the oppisite end
It works like a charm, I have gotten stuck many a time in tidal flows and deep water, once the straps break the anchor pops right out.
