Yes, algae has been an issue all week, along with missed, under predicted wind reports, south wind (yuk!), 7 ft 7 sec waves outside, foggggggg, cold, warm water, and areas that we always find fish that are barren. Strangest week we've had in years. Three days we started at Beg, went to Chown, Great Bear, Sail, Cree, Mears Bluff, then Swale Rock and see 1/2 dozen marks combined and everyone complaining how slow things were, and get skunked. Today was a pleasant surprise. We are greated with a brisk south wind and chop in your face, really foggy, and down right cold. We thought the worst. Decided not to run anywhere and started at Beg for a very nice Spring and one lost in the first hour. Marked fish for the next two hours, with nothing, so moved to Food. Over the low slack 2 hours, 2 Coho and another nice Spring, all on one rod at 67 with a Westcoast little Phat-e Herring Aid glow. That rod had all the bites today. Our friends also had a Spring and 2 Coho and lost a couple more at Food during that same 2 hours at 60 with a white hootchie. Lots of fish there.
As to the algae, a friend that lives here said that they have found it to be about 43' thick or so, so they start at 47' on the downriggers early morning then drop down. It's still being really persistent with patches of brown algae mixed in. Some areas so bright green it almost glows. If you don't bang the fish on the head, they don't bite.
Home tomorrow. Always next year. I love Ukee. Even when it's tough, it's my happy place. jc
