First boat load of albacore hit the docks in Oregon this weekend . Looks like water starting to creep up to the border , shouldn’t be all that long now
went on a tuna popping / jigging trip out of Long Island NY yesterday . Ran 70 nm offshore in a 31’ contender CC , fish were not on the surface so we would move around looking for birds or greasy slick spots on the surface ( fish oil from a recent tuna feed ) and blind cast poppers or jig . Was a slower start but ended up coming together for us when the fish started pushing on the surface , we would either see large v wakes , or big flashes sub surface . We finished with a limit of two bluefin ( 45 and 65 lbs ) , all on poppers , while also releasing two more same grade , and one single yellowfin . Fun fishing
Next shot at some blue water is tropic star lodge in Panama Aug 12, should come home just in time for some albacore !
