Spoons working for pinks right now? Want to run dummy flashers to give an old school buddy and his son from Kamloops a thrill. Thursday from pedder, hopefullly the winds aren’t too bad.
If they're as thick as it seems, jig for 'em! A buddy and I just got back from up island and jigged up a ton from our kayaks using typical chinook gear (mac deeps and the like). They were streaming down the strait, 50' below the surface.

Raging gales and family commitments kept us off the water for 2 weeks. Missed out yesterday but BWD implied wind would be “OKish” this morning so tsunami warning notwithstanding we tried to give it a go. Lines in round 7:15 am and had a 5lb clipped coho off the bat. Released another smaller unclipped coho 10 minutes later. However, waves were already building, wind was cold and swirled the fog and so after 30 minutes we called it. We were disappointed but don’t need to endure discomfort at our advanced age!! BWD is not optimistic about wind for next two days either, so will bide our time…..

Where were you fishing? I don't like the forecast either. I was thinking Pedder...

it accually laid down quite a bit Roland as slack time came at about 9 ish and it was very nice , it was abit choppy as it was from the night winds,,,,, oh and dont forget that " tsunami " that hit us!!!!!! its always best to see what the currents and tides are doing if your concerned bud ,I was on the east side of Secretary in the 350 mark and it was nice.

Good luck Wolf

Made it out to Pedder this morning. 2 clipped coho and lost one just before netting. All within 30 minutes at about 8-8:30am. Two springs released in the water, no where near 80cm. Boys from the mainland were pretty stoked with 3 red rock to go with their fillets. 5 kids and 3 adults on the boat, pretty dam busy! 55 feet with cop car and one hit the AP sand lance on the surface, hell of a fight for a coho.

Question which I don't know the answer to and not listed on DFO website. For Beecher Bay / Triangle tomorrow Aug 1. Does the triangle turn into 80cm slot for hatchery / wild or does the Hatchery No Slot remain and its only up to 80cm Wild added. Not that I fish the triangle anymore but just curious.

Went digging but it expires at midnight tonight. From the Mar 31st notice. So to
Answer your question, it turns into a slot.

Subarea 20-5 (portion of Beecher Bay):

Effective 00:01 hours April 1, 2025, until 23:59 hours July 31, 2025, the daily limit of Chinook is one (1) Chinook per day, hatchery marked only.

I'm pretty sure the whole area turns into one chinook, 80cm max, hatch or wild.

Awesome morning for the first retention day...5 springs before 7:30 then found 5 hatch Coho out of 7 we caught. Many pinks and small springs made for busy fishing and a challenge to keep the boat pointed were I wanted it. One of the ladies spent most of the morning up in the bunk sleeping after she chummed the fish.

Yup. Yesterday was sloppy, windy but holy smokes what about the fish! Limited the three of us on springs, hatch coho and pinks between leaving the dock at 7am and noon. No idea how many fish we had on. First 78 cm spring before we got the second rod in the water and it was 5-10 mins in between bites all morning. Larger (5in) OAR 12 hoochies did a good job avoiding pinks but still got springs and Coho then switching to spoons took care of the pinks we needed quickly. Been waiting for this. So much fun!

A note. When we got to Cheanuh the trailer parking was full and apparently there is no overflow parking. I have moorage there so no biggie but non trailer was also almost full. On a work day. Early is best there I’d say.

No more overflow parking past the Longhouse? If it's full in the morning it's Pedder I guess.

No overflow and $20? Damn

That’s chips for ya !!

Cheanuh is a really great location but I have always felt they could never figure things out. Why not clean up and make the lower parking better for trucks and trailers with designated parking ? Make clearly designated parking up top too.

I would say Pedder just seems less chaotic and more organized

Pedder was so good the day before it opened, an employee in a golf cart nicely asked me to pull forward more and I gladly did to save my tail lights but it was mostly rental boats going out that day. I know Cheanuh has some retail but the selection and setup at Pedder is really top notch.
