2025 Secret Cove, Pender Harbour and Texada Reports

We only fished Egmont once, two years ago in the first half of July when there was an opening. We fished the tacks between Egmont Point and Killam Bay. I’d imagine the tides will play a big role in how active fish are and where the bait holds. Good to give a search to past threads here too. And watch for seals! We had to chase one into the shallows to get our gear back.

Oh the fishing two years ago in July was LIGHTS OUT - miss that.

Appreciate the tip and will let you know what we find.

The family and I are trying something new and staying in Egmont this year. Have always fished more towards Pender and Epsom but never in Egmont. We head up for a couple of weeks on the weekend and would love to hear if anyone has got some general areas of where to drop some lines down?
Sherrett is spot on! Photo from 2 weeks ago 75 cm. less wind as well.

What's everyone been successful using for coho's and springs in the past few days?
I'm still exclusively using 4" & 5" tomic 602 and 632 down deep (160-200ft) which has been awesome for the springs but I'm in the mood for some coho action tonight!

White hootchie always seems popular. We’ve been getting them on smaller spoons like skinny Gs with some glow and flash. Hits have been as deep as 150’.

Anyone who can provide a report from Sangster/Lasqueti? Planning on heading over tomorrow, since none of Merry or Pirate (as of 2 days ago) or Epsom (as of yesterday) are producing springs, or sufficient hatchery coho, at the moment.

There were good sized chinook at Epsom yesterday evening at 160’ DR. Got connects on hoochies, skinny g and plug but only 1 of 4 to the boat. That (smallest) 1 was 60 cm so released. I seem to lose a higher % of fish this time of year 🤷🏼‍♂️. Great sunsets though.

Too windy to get out this evening.

Ya im taking direct to the face in roberts creek. Feels like a 3 day blow. Again.

It does.. supposed to blow back up to 30kn this eve.

Back to my regular scheduled programming of cursing the winds when I have windows to fish!

Camped out at shelter point for two weeks, slayed nice big springs right out front. Caught fish as deep as 240ft and as shallow as 65ft on the beach. I fished plugs for the first time, im hooked, caught a nice spring on a bare spoon no flasher. We fished multiple days of 10+hrs on the boat. Gold hoochie definitely got the most consistent hits. Lots of nice fish between 75-80cm nothing over. The gentleman I was fishing with swears by this Pearl spoon, he had a fishing journal with every fish he’s caught since sometime in the 80’s every fish caught, released, and lost on what lure, depth and tide, pretty amazing, learned some things that I’ll be applying.

I'm seeing mixed signals on Windy... and looking out now, it is surprisingly promising looking! Was waiting for that Wednesday window, but thinking tonight might be the night.

Has anyone been out to Epsom or Pirate? How does it look on the west side of Thormanby? ... it is possible that Halfmoon Bay is protected, and I'm getting lulled into a false sense of security over here.

From just N of Secret Cove, just put the binoculars on Epsom and see some small whitecaps and no boats. Looks pretty fishable. Wind seems to be dropping for now and swung around more WNW.

Appreciate the intel! Saw one boat off pirate this morning, otherwise nothing. There has also been an unbelievable number of fish jumping on the surface along welcome beach - good looking size too, but I'm wondering if they're pinks.

Also, @PinapleExpress I just noticed the Merry Island video feed is back up and running. It's been down for quite some time, but seems to be working today.

Frustrating weather day. Windy app suggested it would be blowing all day at all stations from Texada to Merry. This morning was definitely sporty at Epsom. Some coho and small springs. Pirate was protected from the wind but fewer fish. Did find lots of life further up the side of S. Thormanby (ie, the first rocky point you hit going SE from Epsom but before Pirate) where my dad and I had seen Humpbacks devouring schools of bait in the morning, but it was still swelly into the afternoon when out with my mom. She was more interested in humpbacks than fishing so after we saw blows towards Epsom/Texada we headed out in the strait. At 4pm it was dead calm (slight swell) halfway between Epsom and Sangster and looked flat at Upwood and Sangster. Go figure. But choppy in Halfmoon Bay upon our return. We need real-time video at Pirate, Epsom, and S. Lasqueti, please. ;-)

@Ho Hum what boat were you in?

We set out from Secret late morning yesterday and quickly opted for South Thormanby. Pretty damn lumpy. Set the lines in the lee and trolled the ~80-120' contours from around Fraser Rock over to Pirate. Tumbleweeds until Dennis Head, then bait and marks started to pick up and coho jumping all over from Dennis Head to Bertha Island, so we stayed there and lapped for a while.

Doubled up on the first pass out to Bertha from Dennis in the midst of an awesome humpback whale show. It was feeding and stuck around for about an hour before heading north towards Epsom. Whoever was in that small tinny got quite a show as well! Naturally, Sigge landed the wild coho for a quick gaff release, and I lost a really nice hatch ho 10' from the boat. A few more laps produced undersized chinook and coho, then about an hour later we doubled up just east of the Pirate Rock channel, and similar result except I lost the fish of the day - high teener chinook which fought like a coho and spat the hook 2' from the net jumping and frolicking at surface. One of those moments you'll never forget - ha!

That compelled us to stay out a while longer. Bite was definitely inconsistent, but we managed to double up one last time just west of Pirate with a nice wild coho and (finally) a keeper hatch. Did a few more passes after than and saw a few more undersize, then called it a day. Fish were hitting from 21' to 99' on the riggers. Smalls spoons produced best. Stomache was empty in the hatchery we brought home.

NW is lighter this morning. I see about 5 boats on the Bjerre and a humpback. Remarkable abundance of whales out there right now! Amazing to see. Kiiind of has the feel of a waning NW, although it's back up to 20 kn at the Sentry Shoal. Halibut Bank has been waning consistently about 1 kn per hour every hour since 9 pm and is down to 13 kn - good sign!! Suppose to swing to SE Thursday, so hopefully that's comes early and there is some glass in between.

Spines and bellies on the Q did not disappoint. Tight lines everyone.

Great update, MiddlepointBight. We likely saw you guys at Pirate.

Pulling out of secret around 3pm, I had high hopes of making a run towards Upwood to fish the lea off Texada and venture further afield to Young Pt. if that didn't produce. A bumpy welcome pass made me change plans and head south to find the calm water around Pirate rock. Similar story with streaky bites and an unbelievable number of fish jumping. I was wondering if they were the pinks that seemed to have moved in.

We ended up with one nice sized hatch ho and a pink on the day, so at least we're not going hungry... but both fish had empty bellies. It was shocking: when I switched from a skinny G to a coho killer, we immediately started getting action. Big thanks to the folks on this forum for mentioning the fishies have been liking the smaller spoons. Black/Green/Glow was the pattern of the night for us!

Beauty! What boat were you in? One of the Gradys?
Yep - coho killer was best spoon for me yesterday as well, in Homeland Security.
