2025 Nootka Sound/Esperanza Inlet Reports

It’s been years since I fished Nootka, so can’t wait to get back up there! Do you know if critter will still be open for fuel at that time?

Hello all, does anyone know if Moutcha Bay Resort has a gas dock available to non-resort guests? Im in nootka for the 1st week of September and wondering what my fuelling options will be.
Thanks

Fished out of Esperanza last few days, springs were crazy good a few days ago at Sandstone then dissipated. Coho are everywhere.
Flat calm today, ran out to the 50 fathom line with the commercial troll fleet, lots of hungry springs still out there thankfully.
Biggest was 24Lb today, which by today’s standards is basically a 40lb 🤣
All springs offshore were on 6” tubbys. All inshore is the usual small spoons.

nice to hear exact same spots we hit a couple weeks ago on a 4 day trip only our largest was 19lbs, lost a larger 25+ spring at sandstone though after 4 huge runs. Nice to hear the salmon highway is still producing with those plugs!

Hi everyone, looking for a little help. I’m out in Nootka right now and wanting to do some ling fishing. I usually head to the outside and ling fish out there, but the people I’m with are not wanting to head out as far as the red can. Is there any areas on the inside of the light station where I can find them? Not looking for a one to give up the here spots, just a general area would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you Mike

Any reef a mile or two around the sound entrance will support Lings. Look for gravel rock piles.. contours higher than the rest of the bottom. They like holes too but look for reef contours on your chart and jig or troll on the edges of the rise or fall of the contour. They are ambush preditors that like to hunt when the currents are weekend and slack. 80 to 200 ft is good but 100 to 170 is what I look for on reef contour depth changes.

Nothing too productive on the inside. Of course there must be the odd ling around and there are lots of cliff and rocky drop offs to randomly try, but generally haven’t heard much for ling on the inside. If you are all the way out there and want ling, you go outside. Tell them to take some gravol and suck it up, lol.

Like others have mentioned your most productive fishing will be out offshore, that being said I’ve picked up a few nice ones off Escalante point when the winds weren’t in my favour to get offshore it’s only 10min past the light house or so try trolling some smaller 4-6oz swim Baits off the downrigger will be a little more productive to cover more ground there is also a few rock piles in closer you can try jigging at as well. 80-150’ of water also have caught a few near wash rock! Good luck and give us a report back how you make out!
