2025 Comox Valley-Comox Harbour, Kitty Coleman, Cape Lazo, Denman & Hornby Islands

DFO technical writers exist to reduce us all mere idiots with wicked rule hiding dispersed through notices , boxes with strange bits of words , many many maps , codes , way points , sketchy geographical locations , hidden truths...........

Sorry I just woke up from a weird dream .

Going to go clean up Scuba Steve gear. ( not to be used on south Hornby)

Tight lines 😬

Found a good spot east of whaling station. Landed and released a wild. We hooked into two more, one a great jumper. Silver 3 inch buzz bomb for the win. Saw about 6 jumping and a couple chasing the buzz bomb. Saw a whale as well. Heading back in the morning to see if I can recover a lost sting Zelda and hook into a hatchery. Probably put an hour in teaching a 8 year old to cast for the first time and keeping my son and daughter reeling and casting. Pretty thrilled given the time put in. Appreciate everyone’s input.

A couple years back, we were cruising over to Hornby from Nelson Island. Ran into a 1 km wide pile of coho jumping at the surface, in the middle of nowhere. Stopped the boat and started casting green zingers for about an hour and had some fun. That was the closest I fished to Hornby. Screenshot_20250708_191625_Boating.jpg

Cape Lazo seems pretty quiet. Several boats out there a week ago and fish being caught. Last 2 days hardly a boat seen. Two nice coho one wild caught, both released last week. Cheers

Fished yesterday just out from the yellow cans off Lazo - slow going with only a small chinook taking interest. No other boats around. Moved up to the hump and caught/released two wild coho around 65', saw fish deeper but only caught dogfish - 4 of 'em. Beautiful day out there though... just not sure where all those hatchery coho have gone?

Out at Kitty Coleman today….busy (as expected). Managed to get a nice chinook and nice hatchery coho early but the dogfish were hitting my lures (coho killers, apex’s, plugs) at all depths…sonar screen was lit up but could this be the dogfish migration?? Was getting pretty frustrating.

Was ot windy up there?

Fished Kitty yesterday afternoon, fished deep and couldn't keep the coho off, lots of unclipped coho caught and 3 clipped that we kept. Was unlucky with the chinook lost 4 and landed 0. Oh well that's fishing! My arm and shoulder were getting sore reeling in so many fish the bite was insane!
