I expected to lose some, but not 90% hahaha, thanks for the info!Sox falling off the hook is part of it, but 5/0 thick gauge siwash holds ok.
We had a 90% landing ratio with my assist hook style rigging and 3/0 barbless octopus hooks. Lighter rods that absorb the impact and kokanee dodgers that don't work the hook loose contributed to that as well. Some anglers in Alberni use large spoons instead of unlined flashers, and I've found that to be way more effective as well.I expected to lose some, but not 90% hahaha, thanks for the info!
How deep is the fishing usually? And how suitable are these spots for a smaller boat. We have a 13' Whaler, with just one rigger, so would be running one rod or maybe two max. Might take the boat up to Granite Bay, and come down from lauching there.16 sox today between separation head and greensea. it was non stop action but filtering thru pinks was super annoying
If you go Granite bay road be aware it is really rough, a friend took it yesterday. How deep is the fishing usually? And how suitable are these spots for a smaller boat. Deepwater, Plumper, the wall just north of Browns Bay and Greensea further up across from the Chatham lighthouse. Just look for the boats.Heading up to browns bay this weekend for the first time, never fished that side before. Any advice for nearby spots for springs and sox? On here or dm would be very much appreciated, cheers!

That would be about right Paul..early morning you may not have to go that deep...stack rods and dummy flashers..have fun out there going to hit it Thursday morning myselfI plan on going sox fishing on Friday. I feel silly but it's been so long since I've targeted sockeye that I can't remember how to fish for them. Pink squirt hootchies behind red or green flashers if I recall? 18" leaders? Slow troll I think. Depth 50-100' ? Does that sound about right?
Appreciate if someone can chime in and correct me if I've got it wrong. Thanks in advance.
We tried yesterday during the morning flood, they were launching all over on the edge of the tide rip between the hump and red can, managed to hook into one but after that it was just action free with Sox flying in our faces, I’ll also say though that I wasn’t running dummies at the time and we were actively targeting chinook and cohoHas anyone tried for Sox at the hump or around the south end of Quadra?
