2024 Central Coast Reports

Reaching out to see how the early fishing looks. Has anyone been out recently?

Northern
Yeah, would like to hear some reports from Rivers or Seaforth, as we're heading up there in a month.

Heading up to Hakai pass on Thursday (Thurs-Sun). Anyone have intel on what's been happening in the Pass recently?

I'll report back on my return.

Fishing is good in Hakai Pass. We had to contest with the wind a bit, but when it laid down Odlum and Donald produced springs and coho. We made a run to Cultus one day, and bagged a 31 and a 13 spring and lost a couple others. Cultus is a wild spot, we were deep in the back bay for the 31, right before we hooked up another boat pick up a 36. All caught on cut plugs, power mooching.

Halibut was good, I didn't go but those that did were rewarded, biggest was 54lbs. Ling cod fishing was great, we kept a 27lbs and a few 10's off the pinnacles just out form Donald island . Full limits of salmon and ling cod was my haul.

Go get'em!

Is there any fish depots in Port Hardy and Bella Bella? or any where in between.

Might be a dumb question but, I want to extend my trip and do some exploring and dont want to have to deal with my fish.

Hardy Buoys in Port Hardy is really your only option. They will pick up your fish and clean, portion, vacuum pack, freeze and ship it to you. I can’t remember how much it was when we used them a couple years ago, but I thought the cost was quite reasonable.

They come down to the south ramp of the Quarterdeck Marina to pick up the fish from the charter guys. I think it is around 3 pm, but best to phone and confirm. Also good to let them know your coming so they know your coming and have some totes ready.

I think St Jean's used to have a depot in Shearwater, but I don't see it listed any more. We've had good experience with Hardy Buoys -- you can drop fish at the end of the day and pick it up first thing the next morning. They will also ship.

Spent july20-25 in shearwater. Fishing was ok we caught 16 springs from 15to 29 lbs.Not many coho around until our last morning last morning when new fish showed up. Not many private boats around Fuel was $2.77/litre

Fuel has always been cheaper at Bella than at Shearwater. We are heading that way on Tuesday.

Never had any negativity aimed at us. Guys on fuel dock and in the store where friendly. I have had some negativity in the past on the water before , but that was post Covid restrictions ,when tensions were high. Actually had a guy I had an issue with year last come by give me a friendly wave. I know he recognized my boat so I appreciated that. We all have bad days Shoutout to he heiltsuk fishing adventures for the jesture

Heading up there August 7-10. Reports have been that it’s been like a light switch. Really hot one day and not so much the next. What spots were you working mainly? 16 fish is still a great trip especially fish in that size class.

I will be back aug 3-9. We tried a lot of spots. Cheney.cape mark ,cultis ,purple bluff, idol point . We caught all our springs in seaforth channel at different spots. That’s what we found from hot to cold. First 4 days we caught 3 coho. Our last morning we fished till 10:00am and boated 9.
