Lings don't really have an air bladder as they lie on the bottom exclusively no matter the depth. According to the DFO they can be found up to 100 meters down.

100 meters is childs play. They can be found over 300 meters. We routinely target them off the Coast to 150 meters+

went 4-6 on chickens today, herring with octopus was the only thing they wanted in 195ft. Fished from 9-1 with the bites all coming after 1030. Not a single doggy. Nice to find them a little shallower!

Jigged for 1/2 an hour outside of brochie Thursday evening in my buddies new GW. One nice hit but was on a big lighthouse lures jig so just teeth marks. Anyone have a link to the closed area around the breakwater?
I am sitting here at the office finishing my prawning video and checking Windy for the 10 time since 5am. The trees and flags don't lie. Today is a maintenance day, and thankfully momma likes taking her girlfriends to Sidney spit for Mothers day so I still get to fish this weekend.
Wish I was going for Hali tomorrow but should be fun to get some cod!

Left Esquilmalt at about 9:45 this am, dropped the traps off in front of Sax and headed out to my halibut grounds. Fished with my 77 year old father-in-law who has never been halibut fishing. Set up and fishing by 10:45, with a nice bounce on the rods. Pretty quiet to start off with, as the tide was peeking, we got a beauty bump on the rod, (rod tip in the water) put up a great fight, fought bigger than it was, but a 112cm was landed. Caught on herring, 280’. Fished for another hour and called it at about 2:30. Went and checked on the traps, first one was heavy, second one not so heavy, 4 in the second with 1 red, and 1 keeper, the first trap ended up having 17. We had a total of 12 keepers, so we grabbed our 8 and tossed the remainder back, one was 8.5“ and had a couple of 7.25”.

Out from 6:00-10:45, had to pack it in due to the tide ripping where we were, and we weren’t staying on the bottom. 1 dog to show for our efforts. Two traps, 3 keepers. The young lady at the ramp who was checking in on people, said that 7 halibut had come in, 6 from Constance and 1 from 17 fathom. Great day on the water, and the view never gets old
