Ran my boat along with a buddy boat up to Esperanza and fished the 15th -17th, staying at Port Eliza Lodge. Had some beauty weather and was able to get offshore for Halibut.
We fished hard and it was definitely slow for Salmon. No Coho around and it seemed that the usual spots outside weren't holding many Springs. Fished Sandstone, Jurassic, Grassy, Tatchu, Outer Black Reef, etc with little to show for our efforts. It also didn't seem that trolling offshore was productive for us or anyone else. Most of the fish and fisherman seemed to be at Rosa which produced fairly well on the tide change. Most of our action was on small spoons - the 3 inch AP and small coyote spoons worked well for us although most of the guide boats were rolling anchovies. We didn't have the patience to run bait as there were lots of shakers and jack Springs that would hit anything. Springs were eating very small stickleback bait.
All that said, we had a great trip. Our group ended with 9 Springs, most in the high teens and low 20's. Also, did well on Lings while targeting Salmon and the usual assortment of rockfish.
Kudos to Robert and the crew at Port Eliza for staying open this summer and looking after us. Obviously a tough summer for them amidst the pandemic and they did a great job considering the circumstances. Great lodge to bring your own boat to. Truly one of the most beautiful fishing areas in BC with lots of options and variety. Will definitely be back.
but yes online it still reads 90cm online for the unders. And says it’s a daily limit of two under or one over. Should always be this way. The head off size limit has been in place since the size limit began iirc...
