am i missing something... whats with
the cool graphics. are you
fishing from a whale watching boat.?

Having trouble figuring out if sockeye are actually open for recreational fishing off the Fraser. If so what are the limits? Damn DFO website is so hard to decipher. Also is the north arm a good spot to fish? Ie anywhere south of bell buoy? Thanks!

There is lots of good and very useful Information about fishing for sockeye. Take some time and read the last few pages, especially the post about staying outside of the line drawn between the north and south arms of the fraser. It is open, just not inside that line.

FN-0666 says sockeye opened this morning in area 29-1 to 29-5 with retention of 4 fish.

But it looks like the DFO website has not been updated yet as it still lists Sockeye as non-retention in area 29

So the area off of sand heads is still closed? Didn't someone say that it was only closed between the south and north arm jettys. (inside of them)

Use this picture for reference...
29-1 to 29-5 is open, the river mouth will be announced via separate fishery notice.

The 'banana line' is from the sandheads light to the iona light. If you're west of that line, you're in area 29-3. That area is huge, and I've never seen it closed. EAST of the Banana line is area 29-10. Its about 20-30' deep on a high tide and is impracticable to fish.

So the regular area out front of the sandheads light where its over 100' deep is still open then. Ive only fished out there a few times and usually end up with the rest of the fleet.

Yes. Not to bust your chops, but you're not the only one who gets confused by these boundaries. They see the line being wayyyyyyy out there, when in reality, it's a huge sand bank and can't be fished. Just run out past the Sanheads light to the Green Bell, turn north and head for the T10 buoy. Once you get there, turn around and head back. You'll never cross the line and can catch all the sockeye and chinook you desire.
