2015 Vancouver Boatshow

If anyone is at the boat show today......go to the Pacific Net and Twine Booth......ask TONS of questions. :p

Every answer you receive from them should get a "but why?" as a response from you. :D

PNT - "Yes this lure catches fish".

You - "But why?" ("how come" is also 100% suitable)

Ask them if they are hung over and where they were drinking last night!

Ask where the rest of thier booth is?

Actually I think the small booth is great. It costs vendors way to much to be there, set up, bring all the stuff in and staff it. I rather hear they have a boat show sale at their retail store passing the saving on to us the consumer.

It's called a show not a sale. We want sales don't we :)

One of the things about this gig is that it's a loser for the consumer and a win for the vendors, and BC Place. The $15 one day admission is akin to a cover charge at the bar---something which goes straight into the coffers of the building owner/managers.

3 years ago I enquired about booth space to set up for a couple of fishing charter companies to fence our services. The cost was so prohibitive that it was unaffordable for any small business--a risk with unproven sales leads and ROI. I opted to spend the dollars elsewhere.

However in speaking with those vendors who attend year over year, without this show, 30-50 percent of their sales leads and the resulting sales would not exist and they'd likely go under.

In addition, there aren't too many real "deals" at this show anymore, you can buy the same items the other 360 days a year at the SAME price at the show. the term "SALE" implies a discount price offering unusual and rare discounts. To say this is what goes on at the "show" is ********. Vendors bait and switch crap product lines to imply "deal" when in fact it's not a deal.

Anyways, the only deal about this is that many vendors are brought together under one roof and it saves on gasoline.

Haha.....yup! The "let's take turns ordering a round of shooters"....in hindsight was a bad idea. Nothing like winding down the evening with a tequila, black sambuca and something like a boilermaker...can't recall what it was called but it tasted like bad cough medicine.

Great bunch of guys though!!!

the lodge i work for was going to put a booth in the size of pnt..... 5500.00!!!

Obscene! That's precisely why I didn't set up an exhibit there!

I find it great that I can access a several vendors in one place, boats and gear, and get recommendations for various things. If considering a new boat they are the best place to see a lot of products and compare easily.

There are a few 'deals', a saving a few bucks here and there, but unless you're buying in quantity it doesn't cover the cost of parking.
I also went to the Seattle boat show yesterday. Its a bigger show, or at least seems bigger, and you can find a lot more information in one place, with again some 'deals'; but you really have to find the few really good deals or buy a lot of the smaller 'deals' to cover the cost of visiting.

This year I enjoyed the Seattle boat show a lot more than the Vancouver show. The exchange of information there seems a little more open and less rushed. But its also a longer show I think compared to the Vancouver show.

Didn't make it out to the Pyallup show this year, for the first time in a few years. That's a different show again, that I enjoy visiting. Will hopefully make it out to the fraser valley show this year.

I went to the boat show and my deal was an Ace Pot puller with the new hands free control, carrying bag and a pair of board shorts for $499 from Harbour Chandler. The Scotty pot puller was $439 but chose the Ace for easier Rope handling. Only other deal I saw of interest was a Lowrance 7" HDI chart plotter / sounder for $599.
Without Nikka there was not a lot of tackle or hardware to choose from. I was told that the manufactures are also dictating prices and suppliers can't sell below.

Oh there was a guy there selling aluminum roof shingles if you are looking at redoing your houseboat. Ha ha.

Sure was quiet there. Friday was torrential downpour so the floating boat show must have suffered some.

That's pretty much what I figured

Shimano has been that way since day one-Penn too IIRC.

I had to drive someone somewhere around 5pm-streets downtown and on the west side of the city were deserted.

Enjoyed the boat show. Great to meet up with Pippen, Derby, Searun and Gamechanger. Lots of laughs!!
The best part of the show had to be the kids fishing pond. I bet there were more than a 1000 kids that were introduced to fishing at the show. Hats off to Mike Mitchell and the BC Outdoors crew for making it happen. Well done.
