2013 Bamfield Tuna Shootout

Thanks for the info Kelly, we are planning on launch at China Creek early afternoon tomorrow. We have a place rented at Mills for 4 nights so we will be around there tomorrow evening. Looking forward to meeting everyone and coming up with a plan to help all get on some fish.

Can't come fast enough, see everyone tomorrow.

kelly,

I 2nd the motion from Sculpin, the extra effort does not go unnoticed in keeping us all informed, Thank you.
Ill be pulling in around the same time as BearCove and staying at the same place tomorrow, ill be filling up ay Mckay bay when i get there, so likely meet you on that side of the water.
Haven't got a bucket, but they sound interested..is there fireball in it?

Appreciate it but there's been a bunch of guys trying to make this happen (ill save the list for the final writeup). Hopefully the weather rewards us and let's everyone out! Without a doubt this is the start of something that will only grow and improve over time.

No fireball in the buckets but lots of goodies! Beer, tons of tackle, food, clothes, you name it. Big thanks to Sculpin, Pacific Net & twine, Harbor chandler and The Longwood Brewey for helping us out these together.

Here is todays beer top up from the Longwood Brewery today

Just got a big update! We have a new leader. Coastguard gave the green light today due to the large period between swells (personally I think it was a pretty gnarly day to be offshore!). The crew running the Carmen, captained by Doug Holloway however pounded out there and managed 12 fish with the largest aggregate of 96.5 lbs. Still working on finding out more details....

Tomorrow is also a green light and more boats are lined up for the run. The majority of boats entered are primed for the Thursday, Friday window which is looking like the best weather of the week. PUMPED to get back out there, I think they derby board will see some big lead changes as more boats get on the fish.

Hopefully the weather gods are nice tomorrow and we will be heading out on the "Willey's Rig"! Keeping our fingers crossed we can get into some fish.

Just got an update and the boys are headed out. 6 boats in total heading out, it's a bit lumpy but much better than yesterday. The warm water seems to have moved back in with the la perouse bouy showing 58 degrees this morn. Anyone get some good temp or chlorophyll shots?

Great shot Kelly.....just saw it on FB. Looks like a good day for runnin out.........at least that far. ;)

Save some tuna for us LOL! Leaving work around noon picking up my gal in Port and heading out. She is dressed in black. The break in period is only critical for the first 2 hours with varying rpm's etc. so we can get most of it done on the way out on the canal. I'll finish it off later this afternoon. The rest of the time is just keeping it under a certain rpm. I might actually get some sleep tonight ha ha. Can't wait to meet up with folks this evening. It's going to be a blast. Good luck to those that went out today :).

The catches ranged from 8-16 fish per boat with Rodzilla taking over the lead. Currently we are running offshore, the waters a bit lumpy still but fishable.

How about a tuna report from yesterday? Or was/is everyone too busy seeing today is a good tuna day today? Baited breath over here.

I would like to hear a list of the boats heading out. Pics would be cool too. What did the CG say about giving assistance to a broke down boat out there?

Fish went down! Running back now with a load of fish, most boats had a wicked day.

Quintuple. One of two today.
