2013 Bamfield Tuna Shootout

Great day of Tuna catching today. Could have fished out there in a 14 ft. tinny. I think everyone got fish. Heard of #'s from a few to 30 or so on one boat.
I'll be back out there mid week I hope.
Many thanks to the organizing crew and Q Cove for the seminar.

Is there a weigh in board up at McKay's or Mills? I hope someone has the chance to post up the board as the week goes on. I'll be back up mid week. Congrats big time to everyone that went for it yesterday. Can't wait to read some reports.

We caught 10 fish yesterday on our first trip ever on the well anyways everybody was a tuna virgin except 1 crew member who had done two charters out of the states. Our biggest one was 25 and our smallest was 12.5 I think we had to make a night run back to sidney from bam last night to beat the storm. Was 19 hours on the boat total yesterday, feel like I'm hung over today.wish we could have stayed longer but would not have been able to fish till Thursday or Friday.

Right on Fishtank!

That 12.5 could be a contender. The smallest albacore is worth a lot of money :). Congrats on getting out there. Hope you guys recover from the long day. Thanks for the report.

Cheers,
John

Sorry for the slow reports, cell/internet sucks.

Yesterday was a hoot with all the boats hitting fish. Big thanks to Jodi and the Trophy Hunter crew for calling out coordinates on that school, most boats were scratching before that! Harper's 9.5 is the smallest little peanut and 25 is the biggest by the Well Anyways* crew who also has the largest 4 fish aggregate at 94lbs. Bearcove we were at 14 mile on the run, the actual Tuna spot was more like 60-65 miles.

Today was really snotty with no boats fishing. We cleaned Tuna all morning and then snuck into the local hills for a quick hunt. Got lucky and harvested a 2 point Blacktail to go with our Tuna. Currently at Jeff's house with a bunch of the guys about to eat fresh Tuna, Coho, Halibut from yesterday and Blacktail back straps from today.

Here are some of the pics...

Today's deer that was harvested this afternoon during the gale. Back straps cooking now and the rest of the deer is currently hanging. We will be cooking it up with the crews this week!

Awesome report and pic's Kelly!!! Ha ha you guys are all over it. I was driving to Salmon Beach today to pick up all my tackle and was thinking I should have brought my rifle as it was a PERFECT blacktail day. Pizzing rain and wind. Nothing beats it:cool:. Hope you guys enjoyed those backstraps. Mmmmm good.

Right on Andrew. I think the smallest albacore is going to be the hardest to win. Looks like your right in there buddy. That board will fill up with boats soon enough. Congrats to the Well Anyways crew. Kudos to Trophy Hunter for giving out co-ordinates. The rest of the week will be interesting.

I might be doing a red eye again as I have a 10 hour break in period to go through before I can head offshore. If you see a boat doing laps just outside Bamfield Harbour all night on Tues or Weds it will be me :p.

Cheers,
John

Were heading back to Bamfield tomorrow and hoping to fish Tuesday, where were you guys on Saturday, Loudon or Nitnat? We will motor over to Mill's late afternoon and try to track you down for some info and see who else maybe heading out if weather cooperates.

With the 60-65 run, I'm going to say Louden? The chloro's look better up there anyways ;). If it was Nitnat than even cooler!

I'm definately looking at Thursday and Friday for fishing. I hope to make it up there on Weds. Monday and Tues is looking pretty sporty!!! Good luck to those that get out.

I need a mini vacation big time! Hope to see a lot of other boats up there mid to late week. Should be good times.

When is everyone else showing up?

Our crew from Hardy is rolling in Wed afternoon, we are there for the duration, head back Sunday.
Getting the boat dialled in today, load with all the gear, ice it up tomorrow and roll early Wed morning.
If anybody is needing anything or had forgotten anything let me know. Can grab stuff in Campbell or Courtney.

Cheers
