2012 Vancouver, Howe sound and Sunshine coast reports thread

I go to barrys bait and tackle on westminister hwy between #6 and #7 road. they are 7.99 a pack and they got all the sizes and the quality rhys davis anchovies. and they got any teaser head you might want and then some.

Chovies

I have been getting my chovies at highwater, same thing though, I would call ahead to make sure they have them... I have also been getting them at the Fishermans cove fuel dock. The 26 lb I had last week was from highwater with a 24 hour brine and a touch of blue in them... I will be out again tomorrow for the flood! Anyone fishing the bell?

fished for about 4 hours today off the cap. Hit a fish as soon as we got there at about 1:30, got a bit excited and horsed it in, popped hook at the boat. Looked to be a about a mid teens spring. Nothing for a few hours until about 4 when we boated a 15lb marble. The bite seemed to really come on with the flood, saw many boats hooking up. Both fish on chovies in green glow heads, blue glow flasher banging bottom in 80 - 90 feet.

Yeah, but last I checked, gas cost $1.35 a litre and it takes time to go to Berry's. Pacific Angler is convenient and saves time and gas for some and has all you need. Needless to say though, staff are fantastic at both places.

One bit of advice though, I go through a lot of bait and I have found Rhys Davis to be the most consistent. If anyone is buying anchovies from North Pacific, don't....they won't brine well and the bellies will blow out.

Made it out on Sunday for a bit. fished from about noon until 430. First excitement was at 1:00 with a nice teener:

Then at about 4:30 a cruise ship blew its horn and a scout boat drew a line for us not to cross. Next thing I know, a tugboat is shooting between the cruise ship and all of us trolling the cap. We all pushed in tight and he came flying right by us yelling profanities out the window.

Not the greatest pictures but you can see how close the tug is to the guy outside me and and the barge is wider than the tug. It was pretty wild. Anyways, probably the last time I'll be out for a little while. We'll see. Unfortunately I could not stay out for the last half of the flood. It sounds like things picked up a little anyways.

thanks gentlemen ,

Felix,
you can get them at the mosquito creek fuel dock if your in a bind, decent chovies, pretty good turnover there I think

Certainly full-contact fishing down there. What with the traffic, the crowds and the sewage treatment plant, I have always felt that fishing the mouth of the Cap is a bit like fishing at Main and Hastings.

Went out this morning to Ambleside and a few boats racing around in shallow water which looked like fun but not alone. Mouth of Cap was usual amount of boats and since I was going to have to answer a lot of work calls on my cell I figured it would be best to stay out. I ended up at the Bell and caught 3 undersize springs using small chovies in 50-60 feet of water, I stopped after the 3rd fish rather than risking injuring more fish. Fished deep there and never got a hit, a few seals were hanging around as well as porposis.

We were out until dark last night between the mile marker and the bell - just an hour and a half to decompress after work. Caught nothing, but the sunset was amazing... We are blessed to live and fish here! Back out tonight!
