Your Favorite Made In Canada or USA Salmon Plugs.

Certainly looks like it could be one of those. Thanks for posting that
The Mac Squids in the reference guide were all solid painted but simiar or the same body style.
I'll look through my phisical collection of Mac Squid plugs when I have time.

Google actually shows your plug and yes, it is Mac Squid. Google is your friend when researching. :)

Yes side by side with my other Mac’s, they have painted backs and this is the only one that doesn’t. The foil insert is what’s most obviously different with this one but the chalk looking thing inside is something I’ve never seen before.

A #700 in 7” on the bottom is one of my favourites. First thing I’ll put out fishing Ukee
Quite a few years back we ran the Tomic "Mike Pilchard" 7" at 320 feet on the rigger up off Topnot. Slayed em!!!. No one believed us when we told them the depth.

Just recieved a package with a bunch of 4 and 5” lucky Louie plugs. How fast do you typically troll them?

I have about four or five of these, but until today, I had never found one with the packaging. I found this one in a tucked away little nook in a local antique collector shop. It was made in Sooke, BC. It has a great action. The first two that I had received many, many Years ago were from an old commercial troller fishing friend that used them at a certain time of the year on ECVI. He said that he had decent enough success with them to continue using them throughout his career. Under his direction, they actually work pretty good for both salmon and trout.

I have a few plugs to strip and clean up and paint. What are the best steps to take the old finish off?

I have no idea if I am into doing this or not?! 🤪🙃

For plastics your best bet is probably an acetone dip and dry. This will also likely weaken the already brittle old plastic and cause them to crack eventually but painting over the old stuff is a massive pain as well, choose your poison 😅

As for wood... if it's already been fished I woodn't (haha get it?) personally refinish it as the work to do so is more than just making a new one from scratch in the first place. Wood plugs made way back when weren't sealed nearly as well as they are today and soaked up so much salt etc that it makes for an insanely inconsistent surface to try to get paint to adhere to! I've done about a dozen of each just for the experience and it was enough to decide to never do it again, but if it's a project you're after then that's a great start.
