Hey everyone,

Looking for advice.. found a boat we’re interested in. Has a 2018 Evinrude G2 200hp.
Would you buy and run it? Or want to repower straight away? I’ve read other posts on here, the electronic power steering I’m not familiar with, hoping to hear from current owners experiences or past.

Thanks guys!

Personally yes, I would consider it. I can do a lot of DIY.

When negotiating remember the following points:

- motor is ~8 years old. Any outboard could fail at any time
- corrosion and weathering deterioration
- ETECs aren't made anymore and there is a negative public perception. Use this as a negotiating tool

If you like the boat I'd run it for a while and see how the boat runs and if the power is adequate. Then you can make decisions about whether the boat is right for you and what you might do when the time comes to repower.

Any motor off warranty has depreciated a lot. The issue with that motor is you need new controls to repower as well, so budget for more labour and $.

As long as I can budget in a repower I’d buy a boat with an etec.

I’d find a local etec mechanic and get their opinion, if I couldn’t find one I would really have a hard time not repowering right away or soon, if it has a good kicker.

i would instantly discount it $25K. enough to repower with new controls and outboard. assume its hull only and pay accordingly.

True! Additional controls and labour need to keep mind.
Found a local etec repair shop.

Thanks again!
