Now that Im officially a geezer,my back aint what it used to be...
..considering a wood splitter,nothing too heavy duty......looking for some input ?...probably electric...
Anything to look out for ?...

Tried the Canadian tire (yard works) duo cut 1.75hp splitter and got a year out of it before the switch started acting up.limped it through a second year and this year pffft. It’s dead,

Looks like this 1-3/4 HP is on sale until the 28th. If you want something better than this cheapy you will probably be looking at double/triple/quadruple the price. Depends on how bad your back is and how deep your pockets are.

That looks like it could be an option..

Just dont know much about them....maybe a rental (campbell river area)might help a decision

Bought a Princess Auto gas splitter like 15 years ago and still going strong. Has a Honda engine.
Pretty good return policy there too.

The gas is a big plus,as we're on an acreage ,and the mobility would be huge.....but thats definately more of an investment,as I hopeing to do this short term (ya right)....

We’ve had the four ton one from Canadian tire for about five years. Works fine on soft wood. Struggles with cherry wood that I have. Works great for the most part though, but I’ll go bigger if it ever dies. I’d probably get one of the trailer/gas versions next time and split everything in the hills

I bought a 3 ton electric splitter a few years ago and sold it after a couple seasons.
Not enough jam.
Go for a gas splitter for sure !

I have the yard works electric, I didn't buy it. I don't mind the exercise. I've barely used it but it works ok. Fir butt cuts stall it out so I have to knock the sap wood off with the axe anyway. Dry arbutus would be a no go. I haven't tried it on knots. I would probably rent before spending $250 on one. Long term a gas one would be a good investment.

I purchase the CDN Tire Champion 27 Ton 8 years ago and have split 12 - 80’ firs on my property. I have never had to pull start more than twice to start and have lent her out to buddy’s so no real count on rounds she has split. Love the machine 5 ️

I’ll second the champion splitters. I had a little firewood gig for a few years and beat the living snot out of the 20 ton model and it took it all day long. Those electric splitters are for small knot rounds.

The champion splitters do go on sale often enough, also
