Learning your local area's weather is more important. Look at the area covered by the wind warnings, they're quite large. "Strait of Georgia, South of Nanaimo," is basically Winchelsea Island all the way down to Sydney. Tide also plays a huge role in wave formation when fishing. Wind direction against the tide direction is going to churn up lots of waves. Wind going with the tide isn't going to do much.
http://www.fishweather.com/ gives a reading from all the wind stations in a given area, placed on a nice map. There's an ap too. Check the local winds, and trends, know the local weather patterns and the tides and you'll have a great day out there.
