I watched it and it reminded me of alot of guys on this site :P All jokes aside. Was pretty cool. Just like finding a school of springs and marking them. Just trying to get one to bite!

Drama on the high seas, Wicked way to get ratings. hope it works!!
Defiantly better than watching Marico Izumi.............lol
Interesting footage, hell-ofa ways out @ 150mi. to make a living
Bet east coast Canadian, fishermen travel less to target the same fish

Isn't blue fin tuna endangered? I am not very educated on this matter but have heard time and again that this species is in trouble. Am I misinformed? Is blue fin tuna fishing sustainable. They are amazing fish and I would not want to see them wiped out. I watched the show but wasn't sure if I should be.

The pacific bluefin tuna is not endangered. The southern bluefin and atlantic bluefin are endangered.

Yum Yum .....all the Mercury you can get your hands on......

Like the other poster said:- I was getting sick of those guys whining about the guy (Dave) who got out there first and then the rest follow him out there and want his exact co-ordinates and all info on where and what he is using.
When he throws them a couple of curve-balls, one of them tells the camera "Dave can go eff himself" (about 4 times on the episode).

As far as I'm concerned , everybody out there except Dave can go eff themselves.

Since when was it Dave's responsibility to provide all info to guys who are already supposed to be Tuna fishermen?
If, by now , they can't catch a Tuna without whining for a freeby , they shouldn't be out there.

Also reminds me of some of the (cough) Halibut-chaser stories around here......guys waiting to see when the guide boat takes off out of the harbor and then sticking on his butt until they get to the fish-spot........then anchoring so close to him there's no room at all.......

I'll be watching every episode....

Just watching it now. I can get past all the rigged drama and enjoy the other parts. Looks great so far. Love the boats.

How come they have to pull on the line with a gloved left hand wile cranking the reel with the right? Or are they just spooling it level? Drag not set right on those huge gold (Penn?) reels?

I think they have to use the glove hand because the other had or reel is not strong to pull the fishin. They sure have Hugh reels!!

That was true some time ago, don't know about today...
I had the luxury of fishing these in Canadian waters (right on the US border) back in the mid-90's. Incredible is the only word to describe the action! We trolled for them (arrays, kites, etc) and it was a LOT more productive and exciting than what is being portrayed in the current Drama Show. Size was a lot better as well, one day I was out we boated one over 1,400 pounds, and a second over 700.

The pacific bluefin tuna is not endangered. The southern bluefin and atlantic bluefin are endangered.

And the show occurs where... ?

Yes, the Southern & Atlantic Bluefins are endangered. Due pretty much exclusively to overfishing to feed Japan's VORACIOUS Appetite for these fish. Thus the size restriction noted several times in the show. Not all that long ago fishermen would have been embarrassed to bring in such small catches. As usual, as the real Biggies disappear, the legal size requirement shrinks to accommodate the ongoing fishery...

I had one hell of a lot of fun when I partook in that fishery, and have dreamed ever since of one day making my way back. Have a standing offer to do just that. But, the radical decrease in the sizes of the catch really caught my eye. Back then fish over 1,000 pounds weren't at all uncommon. Today, one approaching 700 pounds is now considered HUGE. As much as I'd like to return to try them on again, I simply cannot justify in my mind contributing, even in a small way, to their further decline.

As for the show, far too much Bitchin' & Whinin' & Drama going on for my liking. Likely pass as a consequence...

Cheers,
Nog
