Okay gentlemen
I have 1 week off the starting Aug 21 where should I go.
all I want is to catch springs. Been to the island 4 times this year, haven't been skunked yet but it's not been that great either.
So here's the question if you could go any where on the island for springs 3rd week of August where would you go.
I'd like to go out on one of the banks off Ucluelet but I don't have radar just a GPS is this a problem.

swiftsure :D or renfrew

To fish or not to fish,
What a stupid question!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat drinking beer for a life time :D

Port alberni might have decent fishing by then. Maybe not the same as offshore but youd be nice and close and alot safer in a smaller boat?

My pick would be southern Van Isle, for that time frame. But who knows.....Things aren't making much sense, this year.

Maybe wait until the last minute before making plans in order to see what's hot and what's not. A fair number of holiday'rs stay at home in order to prep for school at that time. Shouldn't be to difficult to find a slip and accommodations (?).

Btw. I wouldn't mess around in the fog without radar, or at least a buddy boat that does. Just my opinion but......The thought of becoming another vessels 'speed-bump' (especially off-shore) doesn't sit very well.

Good luck!

The way sooke is heating up it may be an option.

i would say port alberni, the word is theres a ton of fish off shore, and they have to start commin in soon i would think. fishing is starting to pick up in the inlet, and now it can only get better. for that time i would say barkley sound/bamfeild would be pretty good fishing.

Just back from Renfrew.Went Saturday afternoon and fished Eastrock Saturday night heavy fog and no fish.Sunday morning fished Logan and down to Camper 1 small spring and nothing else, fog was light. We came in went to the pub for lunch and back out for the night bite.Played 5 fish at the Rockpile, one double header, landed 2 -#25-#30,all in 45 minutes, 50f-in 110ft of water.Hour later had another double and managed to get the bigger fish to the boat, another #25.
Monday went to the Rockpile and started there and fished for a couple hours and caught the ebb to camper for the tide change and got clubbered by the Coho.So we went out two deeper water and trolled back to the Rockpile and to the same spot we got the fish the night before and same thing played lots of fish and managed to limit out #31#22#18#26.
The charter boats all seemed to have full loads of Halibut and springs
If you have a good boat and gps I would give Port Renfrew a shot and bring your crab traps too!

You'll be in prime time for the big mutts movin towards the Somass. Great inshore fishing in all the spots out of Bamfield and Ucci.

Thanks boys
Going to Sooke for 2 days then off to tofino for 2 then uclulet for 3 more.
Got an 18' malibu cuddy it's been fishing good for me. Often get fish when my buddies get skunked.
Checked the voltage (no black box) runs .60 to .62 guess that good for springs. you guys believe in this voltage thing.?
GPS is the best thing I have ever seen, for finding structure it rocks. I troll the boat like a video game, following the contours.
Been to Renfrew in June for hali lots of dogs and BIG swells.when those 20 foot swells got close together and started to break figured we'd get the hell out of there.( rasin bag)
Went back to beacher and got some nice springs that trip.
So far I've taken 5 round trip ferry rides... ouch
Can’t help it though, salts got me good
