Well boys and girls,

The new boat is finally ready to go...been a long couple of months although I have had it out to cruise, it is finally ready to fish and I am stoked! Waiting for my GPS/Sounder, then the downriggers to get here from the Island just about drove me to drink...more! Weather looks good for this weekend and am looking for some info.
We are gonna run outta Mcdonald Beach and from there...not quite sure whether to head into the harbour/north shore, T-10/sandheads or run across to the islands and thrasher.
I have read the other reports but thought what the hell, I haven't started a topic yet so here it is.
Any info would be cool...all said and done, we will probably fish T-10/sandheads and coal port area.

How far across to Thrasher anyways...about 15-18 miles?

look forward to seeing some of you guy's on the water...finally!!

Yes I have joined the Striper owners club...some very good info that's for sure!
So far the boat is everything I thought it would be.
Just need to christen it with a little slime and some blood now!

Nice Highlights...Looks like a really sweet setup!
What kind of kicker mount do you have?

The 9.9 is mounted on a custom mount provided by Sherwood marine here in Victoria. It is a custom welded job thats been powder coated . Very nice , but it was a tad expensive. Worth it though. It is a clean install. Problem though that the 2009 9.9 has the control lines coming from the front of the power head vs. the side as the older models did. I had a permanent tie rodinstalled to the main motor. Convenient , but The kicker does not get full deflection to one side. If it's very windy, you'd better make plans to turn in the direction that you have more turning authority. Because of this they had to fudge the height in which they installed the kicker. At times a little of the skeg will touch the water while running. Not a big deal though. I never even notice it now. At first though, it is alot of money out just to compromise. I have learned ( from years of builing yachts) that nothing is perfect on any boat. They are all hand made so what can you expect?

Awsome boat none the less. Very nice lines!

nice boats highlights are those stock seats would like to change mine to something with arm rest. I have same set up right down to the 09 kicker and bracket purchased off daryl at sherwood. getbent will look for you tomorrow will be off the fraser in the a.m

Hey Poco, those are factory option Pompanette seats. A nice upgrade for sure. However I had to take the arm rests off the helmsman seat. The space between the seats is just too narrow for me to get to the rods in time. Unfortunately the armrests do not just unbolt. I had to actually use the sawsall and cut them off. It wasn't until after that , that I found out these seats retail for $700 US. OUch. However It is much better now that the armrests are gone for good.No more ripped pants from getting caught up . The guest seat still has it's rests in place. Anything to allow me to beat the guest to the rods ;)

I must say that I am so jelious that I know hate you guys. One day I will have my 2301..... I would try thrasher rock for fishing it has always treated me right unless you get into a NW wind and in that case hold on. Normally it is a short 15 ride from Mcdonald but if the wind come up count on a couple hours.

I have a 2301 which I bought in February (immediately joined the SOC). I will be going to Tahsis August 7th thru the 15th for my first saltwater trip with the boat. I plan to fish out at 10 mile. What should I expect from this boat? How will it handle the rough seas? I must admit that I am still learning how to use trim tabs. My last boat was smaller and didn't have them. I would appreciate hearing your input. Tight lines!

All the things I have heard is they are up in the class with the grady white boats but do not have the sticker price.

Keep an eye on the release bracket and the backing on the mounting bolts on the kicker. If you run in rough water that skeg hitting the water will give both a real pounding. Have replaced both myself, both times it was after a pounding offshore.
