better yet ,, why did the thread about him get deleted? more censorship i guess...

It wasn't really an appropriate thread the RIP Holmes one... Funny it was created by the moderator. he probably realized his error and took er down.

when i saw it started by a mod i thought ,, wow, this mod is open to opinions....some where pro ban, some where not. just opinions tho.... nothin against the rules.

I felt the news no longer warranted a thread.. But it is back up.. It has nothing to do with anyone's opinions, it has to do with a regular pattern of posting content that gets SFBC in hot water, and one or two complaints from other members a week.

We are done with that. The other forum may apreciate the content. I figured I would put the matter to rest, I thought maybe I would be making a mess after watching the thread for an hour, so I took it down. Here it is again..

Anyone who wants to talk about fishing in a non-hot headed manner that doesn't result in my inbox getting two or three complaints a week is welcome to do so on this forum.

We are really taking the forum away from thought of the hour. 7K posts and how many of them had to do with fishing, versus how many were a hot headed reabuttle? Really. There are several members with thousands of posts who have never even come up on the radar. That is the type of content we are looking to host.

I imagine he has a few up island buddies that will go to bat for him, but the matter is sooo closed.. All of the other times he had been asked to pipe down then brings a payroll matter into the public light really just made the decision for us that his content is not right for the site.. I explained to him in a very long personal message to keep it to fishing not a week ago.

NO regular poster has been canned without several times hearing from me. Our policy is 1 infraction and that's it. If someone wonders why they have never heard from me/us , then they have figured it out. So far, that's over 6000 members, versus 4 in the last couple of years who have not.. I would say those are good odds.

And it is this exact kind of debate that I hoped to avoid by taking down the thread, I wish Cam no ill will and would probably like the guy if I met him, but business is business, and the last PM we recieved had several references to chicken manure, and how he is "not going away". I don't care if he is not going away, if I got thrown out of a bar by the bouncer I would not claw back at the door, I'd probably find another bar.

If this forum weighs THAT much on someone to devote an afternoon to several different logon attempts (Against the terms of use again), and several very terse emails laced with profanity and using the words "chickensh*t" after we calmly explained our position in profesional language, really time to turn off the computer and find another hobby. WE DO NOT WANT YOU HERE.

I took down the thread as a service to Cam, I thought I should just let it be and not have his legacy be us explaining why we are done with him, but since that ain't what the public wants, then here you go.

Very good point BGM. I totally agree. In my opinion this situation has been terribly mishandled by the mods. They have to take into consideration that this Halibut issue has effected many members and has created heated statements and responses that are a direct result of recent decisions by DFO. Unless a member creates a liable statement, I feel a longer leash on opinions in this matter is needed. DFO spy's must be laughing there heads off. eman

Aw I personally always saw the humour in his posts! Hmm and another one bites the dust though eh. I understand the matter from a moderators perspective, but maybe we should have a forum for people over a certain amount of posts that's for hot headed debates and all the topics that go sour can end up there? It would be away from the publics eye and people like me who can get a good laugh out of it can still enjoy it. The way I see it is we are all fishermen, and all have an opinion on matters and each persons opinion is equally valid. We are fishermen and we are sorta known to be a bit of a redneck bunch wouldent you agree? I think we are better off keeping things realistic then trying to censor it!

x2 on the clarity, LastChance. That post should kill pages of speculation.

As to a forum for hot headed debates on fish related issues with lots of name calling maybe holmes will give birth to such a beast. Would be entertaining. It is clear that this not the direction this forum wants to go in.

Looks like eman and I on the Hawks thread.

How about a 'Trash Talk' thread with an 'Enter at your own risk' disclaimer.
Same general rules would apply and it doesn't mean you can't be canned,
but at least it might keep the knee jerk posters out of the other forums.

LC, I wish you and all the Admin./Staff all the luck in the world.
As someone who is staffed on a much busier forum catering to mainly adult men(with MUCH less maturity topically speaking than fishing) but has to be kept "safe"/PG etc. I feel your pain.
I never get tired of the "I gotz banned for no reason ZOMG!!!!1!!!!!" posts.
If you got banned then you got yourself banned by repeatedly not taking staff seriously and having them clean after you.
Some people want to run the show and treat forums like their own personal insane asylums...but thousands of other members never hear from staff.

It's time I commented on my past remark calling another member an idiot. First I would like to apologize for this comment and the stir it caused but I honestly felt the threads were being hijacked with derogatory remarks and childish comments. We can all take a bit of ribbing but in my mind it was more than that. Rather than making the comment I should have contacted the moderators and voiced my concerns to them.

I think thats a sort of unfair thing to say on a topic about homes's dismissal, comparing his opinionated posts to using the forum as a personal insane asylum. He was down to earth enough to be 'sane' in my books, but just 'insane' enough to still be interesting and entertaining.

Just to clarify I was not talking about him doing it...I hardly ever saw his posts and from what I saw they all looked OK to me.(I'm in the Freshwater forum 99% of the time)
What I meant was, I've seen it & dealt with it, elsewhere.
What you all see here is very tame to what I'm used to :o

It doesn't work if you're allowed to :(
