When Will it Stop?

And maybe get educated before you comment. Thx

It was in the IFMP back in November, it was in the draft well before that its been historically 20% harvest rate, last year they dropped it down to 10% this year they settled on max harvest rate 14% in the SOG.

"SOG: FSC, Food and Bait, Special Use, and Roe herring opportunities (14% harvest rate) to a maximum of 12,787 tons. Assessment information for the Strait of Georgia is presented using the updated SISCAH modelling framework. Spawning biomass for 2025 is forecast to be 91,051tons and above the LRP and USR reference points. Based on a management procedure tuned to meet the conversative objective of maintaining the stock above the LRP with a high degree(>75%) degree of certainty, harvest rates of up to 14% will achieve this objective over the 15 year simulation period"

Spot on.

Maybe we should protest the herring fishery? They are only catching them for the roe to send to Asia.

Jesus. I think these are important debates to have, but I personally trust the world-class biologists who work in commercial fishing and with First Nations, who I've known for decades. Common sense is a "politician slogan" you can see being used to ignore doing what is right.

Killer whale closures, mmpa closures, FN closures, mass mark fishery, river habitat, water extraction, climate change, anti catch and release, good stock assessment data ..... list goes on and on.

Fishing SOG herring well below the CSAS approved percentage, well monitored population and spawning survey make it a well managed fishery.

In river poaching, ENGO closure requests, salmon allocation, halibut allocation, reduced prawn access, crab access ..... even Rain Cities salmon catching abilities are more of a concern..... I'm sure I can come up with more.

As stated read the IFMP and the stock status reports from the last 20 years and see what you determine.
