What is your best fishing line out there?

I am looking at reloading my reels with new line as I have not use them for almost three years. They are loaded with 80lb braided backing and should only need 100-150 yards each. What Lb test do you normally use? I think I have 25 LB mono at the moment, and would like a line that is ok for both Springs and coho.
thanks,
Ray

I would go 30lb for summer run springs. I often run 40 Maxima UG.

Might be a bit overkill for coho if you are looking to go light, but I personally would prefer not to have a big summer run spring saw my line with his teeth :D

Cheers

Best line by a country mile is Suffix 832. Put a 50 foot tag line of floro on it so the down rigger clip has something to bite into and you are golden. You can get several seasons from the 832, which is a perfectly round super braid. Therefore, no stretch and because is it round it will not bite under itself like the other braids do. Been doing this for 4 seasons now, and have converted all my mooching reels over. I fill the reel with cheap backing line first, then add 150 - 250 yards of Suffix to top off.

x2..... :)

First decide if you want braid or mono. I tried braid then went back to mono on all salmon trolling gear. Run the 30 lb berk big game also, easy to find and reasonable. Works well, no top shot or floro, cheaper than braid, holds in downrigger pins, more forgiving and easy to change each year so always "new". I found braid acted "fast" with flasher and fish going different directions, causing me to loose a couple. That was Vic and fishing less than 140 ft, here in the Valley trolling at 250 ft sometimes the stretch factor inhibits release from clip, one just needs to wind down before Popping it out if fish do not. My .02c I am happy with the Berkley mono, both have pro's and cons.

"Hey, want to go fishing?" If she says no, she's not the girl for me.

But seriously, I like the option to fish deep: braid, whatever's cheapest in the 40-60 lb range. Add a 30 pound mono topshot so it holds in the downrigger release clip.

25lb Maxima UltraGreen.

I've used Berkely Tri-Lene Big Game before.....tough line but it's one big issue is it keeps popping out of the clip frequently. Don't get that at all with Maxima.

X 2 & 3 lol..

But seriously,, the best line is the one you have your drag set right on !!!

I buy Ande's 25lb bulk spool. Change the line every couple of years - line is one of the cheaper things for me. Have been using Ande's for 20 years.

Why Not "tie" your Hoochies/Anchovies with 4" of crimped wire? No fish is going to cut through that, you can attach a leader to the front of that...

I just ordered a few dozed skirts, hooks, crimps, beads, and swivels, I don't see why it wouldn't work...

I have used Berkley big game for years but got talked into P-line 25 lb for a new reel. It's awesome. No memory, thinner than most 25 lb out there. I'm not ready to try braid for trolling. I like the stretchy feel when fighting a good fish.

I was looking for Ande or P-line at Cabelas here in Edmonton but they are out of stock on 25Lb test or heavier. I wanted to try something new but ended up loading with 25Lb Berkley Big Game again. The Wholesale Sports near me had their winder machine broken down and the old FishingHole near me close down for business a while back.
I do like Berkley thou and it should be all good to go at the end of the month, can hardly wait!

This year have been trying mono backing, main body of braid, about 50' mono lead. So far am impressed. Real good feel when fighting fish, seems to be more sensitive on rod tip for those small fish hits; is hardly more than a flick of wrist to pop clip for gear check.. negative is another knot in system but doesn't seem to be problem…

Am using 40 lb leader mono so have good clip hold.. working great so far!!
