Yea it’s alright when it’s a bathtub out there and I can fly. Motor has always sounded the best at 4200-4400-ish RPM… it’s got that nice singing sound to it, but still not working too hard.
Problem is right now that means 34-36 knots, so it’s great if calm, but not so good at slower cruising. (ie 35-3600 RPM at 25-26 knots)
That mid range power especially when fighting the chop and/or when loaded, it doesn’t have nearly the response that it should. And if I cruise around there up to 3800, then the RPM’s fluctuate a bit at times, which is a symptom of “lugging”, a sign of over-propping. Oil pressure spikes a little and fluctuates when that happens too.
