Went out for a fish today, optimum conditions, glass calm. Starting working the zipwakes manual and auto. Love them! I can literally stuff the bow. When in auto cruising around 25 they are at 3% extended and hold the boat level. Manual mode 100% extend is stuffing the bow. Great system.

Props are working great. At first I thought they may have lugged the enginebut they do not. Cruse rpm is 3500 and 27mph thought the engine may be working hard but they sound great and mpg is up.

Going to go pawning and crabbing Monday so see how it works with a couple hundred pounds of gear in the stern.

Jumped on the boat today, to grab some tools to winterize the camper. Heater is going all night in the boat and there was a little ice on the gunnels. Hopefully she is good to go in the morning, after taking the camper off I’m planning for a quick prawn hunt.

Going to get the 17’s repitched maybe a bit more cup for stern lift and balanced. Figure I own them now and used they are not worth much so will give that a go

Well not exactly something I did to my boat. More of a gift my wife had made of my boat. She got a custom CNC cutout of my rig. It turned out pretty good and just have to pick the right spot to mount it at the cabin....

Well, I finally got onto a project to improve on the Grady seal system where the canvas attaches to the top of the hard top. From factory the connection was never totally water or air tight, which allowed airflow and when it rained heavily water to get forced in under the top leading edge.
To solve the problem I found a 2.5 inch bathtub surround seal at Home Depot, and removed the original Grady mounting hardware that screws into the hardtop. Then added one layer of the tub surround, reattaching that along with the Grady hardware. Then sealed the top portion of the tub surround where it meets up with the hardtop using sikaflex. Finished the top seal by applying one more strip of the tub surround to cover the mounting screws and forming a secondary watertight seal with the hardtop roof, then a bead of sikaflex to finish the seal.

Looks good, and really provides an excellent seal. Posting for other Grady owners who have the same leaky issues in heavy rain conditions.

And a cheap upgrade - I think a roll of the bath tub surround is something like $7, and a tube of sikaflex at $14 so all in $21 solution and some sweat equity.

Well the verdict is in, ran thru a little over a full tank of gas (350L) got a pretty good idea how it performs.

-2.7mpg average, was 2.4mpg (12% better)
-Hole shot just a bit worse but still ample
-dropped a good 400RPM at any given cruising speed, 30 knots at 3800 (was 4200rpm)
-doesn’t rev up to full RPM’s as expected but top speed still improved slightly. 44 knots at 5300RPM. (Was 42.5 knots at 5900)

Overall I’m happy with it.

Well… turns out I’m not 100% happy with the prop it’s decent but after a while now I think I’m overpropped a bit.

I have a 16x19P ENERTIA ECO (RH) prop that I would be willing to swap for an ECO 17P (or possibly 18P)

Long story short, I should have trusted my gut and gone with the 17.
I’m just barely hitting my WOT range and I can tell it’s a bit sluggish lower-mid range RPM’s, so I’m overpropped. At 3700 RPM the motor is barely revving, I’m going 30 knots and RPM is fluctuating (symptom of lugging/over propping) After 4000 RPM it sounds like it wants to sound, but we’re at 33kn +. Ok if it’s calm but in rough water I’m too low RPM. Max rpm is 5350, barely in range (5200-6000 for my motor)...

Not sure where you are at but I have a rev 4 17p you can try if you are close to Nanaimo. Good stern lift with it and economy but I was under propped so I went to rev 4xp 20p. ( seapro have lower gear ratio)

Sounds good. I found the rev4 an in between for enertia and eco inertia. Talk to the guys at Bridgeview maybe they have loaners to test. Gets expensive fast buying props. I am on set #5 and satisfied.
Another good option is the mirage plus. Larger diameter than enertia but a little smaller than eco
A few on marketplace reasonably priced. They work well for stern lift and heavier boats

Yea it’s alright when it’s a bathtub out there and I can fly. Motor has always sounded the best at 4200-4400-ish RPM… it’s got that nice singing sound to it, but still not working too hard.
Problem is right now that means 34-36 knots, so it’s great if calm, but not so good at slower cruising. (ie 35-3600 RPM at 25-26 knots)
That mid range power especially when fighting the chop and/or when loaded, it doesn’t have nearly the response that it should. And if I cruise around there up to 3800, then the RPM’s fluctuate a bit at times, which is a symptom of “lugging”, a sign of over-propping. Oil pressure spikes a little and fluctuates when that happens too.

I fully get it. We usually get this calm weather in winter, but in the summer when you’re climbing hills all the time, I know you would appreciate under propping a bit or perfect propping actually.

And here I always thought that you did the right thing by putting that huge motor on that boat. But it still comes down to the correct propeller.

Without the power I’d be struggling more with it for sure, but I can tell it just isn’t right. The prop game is a fine art to get it dialled in.
