Are you going by the Smart Craft gauge to get this mpg? Do they read in US gallons?

I’m just going by the Merc vessel view gauges. I believe they are all in US gallons.

Yes they read in US gallons but I’m using that in my calc as well (3.84L) Also not confusing nautical miles with miles (x1.15) when applicable… but it just seems off. Not surprising. I’m a technology conspiracy theorist lol

If you use imperial mpg it would be higher mpg as an imperial gallon is larger.
Conversion factor for us gallon to liters is 3.785

I won't mention getting you into some Tyees at Sandheads or cruising close to a couple beaches so you can Bino the wildlife. Well boys, we got it done! Fished about 9-11 in West Van. Boat ran great, I ran...ok. Definitely ran out of breath a few times. Almost fell down when Andrew handed me the rod with a pig of a fish on it. But managed to reel on my own and stayed on my feet. Damn near killed me. We got a really nice coho pushing 10lbs and barely slot pig of a white both on bait at 65 feet. I'm lucky to have had a capable mate because I wasn't doing any of that solo, not a chance. I'm absolutely tickled right now. And in desperate need of a nap!

That's unheard of gas mileage, running your V8 Merc seems way better than what I get with my 4 cyl. 200 Suzuki on the same hull. I still need to raise my motor up to the highest setting,but don't expect any mileage improvement running a 3x16x18 3/4 suzuki prop. I splurged on a new HDS Pro 12" with the 3 in 1 Hd transducer yesterday. Fits nicely between windshields.

Hey, I eat my words. My buddy showed me one today he got in the July 15 slot, 80cm 20lbs, they do exist, short and fat. First one I’ve seen. From now on there going to be a lot more

At 30mph I’m only running at 3570rpm. If I drop the speed a bit to 28mph I can hit 4mpg.
I’d imagine that zuke 4 banger is going to be reving quite a bit more than that at 30mph

Your right ,I'm probably turning 4300 -4500 @ 28-30 MPH.,so it's working a lot harder.You made a great choice with that motor.

Interesting, I’m far from educated on these engines but have been through a couple fuel issues in mine. Fuel flow comes to my mind, pump or carb (is a 4 barrel)?
Best pricing I could find for fuel pump was marine parts source out of Nanaimo.

Changed my fuel filter/water separator today thinking I may have a water issue. Thanks to a tip on here I poured it off into a glass jar to assess, no water and appears the filter is doing its job (a bit surprised by the amount of debris for it being changed a year ago).
I’ve had a stall issue twice this summer in about 1000km of boating. 5.7L carburated mercruiser. Runs great the rest of the time through all rpm range with exception of a few stumbles when powering up onto step this spring (perhaps old fuel).
1st time this year after 1.5hr run at about 3300rpm (cruising speed), stopped to tighten a strap and boat was running at trolling speed for maybe 5 minutes and then it quits and won’t re-start. Start messing around checking fuel system, oil etc. Start kicker and continue moving to destination. After about 15 minutes from stall with air cleaner off and watching down carb it starts up and was fine for the next 750km.
2nd time, been running perfect and then after about 30 minute run through heavy waves with lots of variable throttle we stop to check crab traps, after running at trolling speed for maybe 5 minutes it stalls and won’t start. Dick around for a bit trouble shooting and start heading towards dock on trolling motor. It fires a few times when trying to start and then starts up (this is after about 15 minutes again). Seems to start and run fine again now (though I haven’t gone for an actual run since as we were in the marina).
I feel like it is a fuel issue, thought it might be water though it wasn’t. Maybe something with the fuel pump heating up? I have a second switched power source for the fuel pump which I switched over to from the oil pressure controlled switch so have ruled out pump activation, though can’t rule out actual pump flow. It could be associated with engine temp but don’t recall temp gauge being out of the normal range - I would have noticed that.
I have a spare pump so plan to try changing that. Any other ideas? I may start a new thread but thought I would try here first.
