The earth HAS done this before. And what was the cause of some of these mass extinction events - CO2 levels, mostly. Maybe it would prudent, smart and responsible to notice this and do something about it while humans haven't yet gone extinct:

And how do you come up with the idea it is man causing the recent rise in co2? Seems like pure speculation as usual!! Just like the claim co2 is acidifying the oceans yet isn't acidifying the surface fw's or precipitation.

Good question FM.
Short answer.
We can measure the ratio of Carbon isotopes to Carbon in the CO2. C14 has a half life of around 7600 years so the ancient carbon that we burn has very little Carbon isotopes left in it. When we release it in the air we can see that ratio decrease over time as the air gets diluted with it.

I find it odd that salmon are trying to colonize the arctic and our response is to try to kill them off.

German climate scientist Dr. Sebastian Lüning comments on climate models at the Die kalte Sonne website. Dr Lüning cites a recently published paper by Prather and Hsu, who claim that the models assume the earth to be flat, and thus result in major inaccuracies in their results.
“The real flat-earthers are the climate modelers,” Lüning says
The authors stress that the resulting errors are in the order of magnitude of the greenhouse gas forcing. Thus the solar irradiation and the aerosol forcing are falsified.
So in the future, when someone insults annoying climate critics again as “flat-world supporters”, the answer is basically clear: The real “flat earthers” are climate modelers who still simulate flat worlds due to their limited computer computing power, and who have not yet been able to simulate the real world

Dr. Mototaka Nakamura received a Doctorate of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and for nearly 25 years specialized in abnormal weather and climate change at prestigious institutions that included MIT, Georgia Institute of Technology, NASA, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, JAMSTEC and Duke University.
But now we have Nakamura.
The good doctor has accused the orthodox scientists of “data falsification” in the form adjusting historical temperature data down to inflate today’s subtle warming trend — something Tony Heller has been proving for years on his website realclimatescience.com.
Nakamura writes: “The global surface mean temperature-change data no longer have any scientific value and are nothing except a propaganda tool to the public.”
The climate models are useful tools for academic studies, he admits. However: “The models just become useless pieces of junk or worse (as they can produce gravely misleading output) when they are used for climate forecasting.”
Climate forecasting is simply not possible, Nakamura concludes, and the impacts of human-caused CO2 can’t be judged with the knowledge and technology we currently possess.
The models grossly simplify the way the climate works.
As well as ignoring the sun, they also drastically simplify large and small-scale ocean dynamics, aerosol changes that generate clouds (cloud cover is one of the key factors determining whether we have global warming or global cooling), the drivers of ice-albedo: “Without a reasonably accurate representation, it is impossible to make any meaningful predictions of climate variations and changes in the middle and high latitudes and thus the entire planet,” and water vapor.

So it's October again and that means this graph has been updated for another year.
Latest visualization of the startling decline of Arctic Sea Ice, showing the minimum volume reached every September since 1979. At this rate, it is expected that the Arctic ocean will become ice-free for an increasingly large part of the year beginning sometime in the 2030s. The rate of loss is staggering. In just 40 years the volume of Summer Arctic sea ice has declined by about 80%. What may normally take tens of thousands of years to happen in geologic timescales has happened within half a human lifespan, and continuing.
Ice doesn't care what you think or if you prefer the politics of one side or the other.
Ice can't read a blog nor tell you how to think.
Ice is not a computer model that will predict the future but it sure as hell can tell you what the truth is.
Ice is pointing the way to what is in store for us and the question is are we listening.
