Anybody !!!! any ideas as to who made them.Would anyone know where I can find some the old red weight release clips ??? They would slide onto the line and have a pin to release the weight.
thanks
I have never even seen one of these before and I have been fishing for 50 yrs. Does the weight just fall off and is gone?

Git it, cool idea.
These came in and were used after the old slip weight method, which I always hated. I would prefer to use the lost bag of rock
and not have to fight any weigh.
Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't it be more fun to use the very heavy rod and line you'd need for your plan, but instead drag around a bag of rocks or 5-7 lb cannon ball, then attach a scotty release clip to a lighter rod to enjoy the playing of the fish more? Poor man's downrigger.
Then again, you fish from shore a lot, so are you going to build a catapult or trebuchet to launch the bag of rocks from the golf course? That would be cool.
Years ago I used these when mooching for springs, but with the advent of downriggers, they went the way of the Dodo. I also used them on the Campbell River Pier. I would use them on the south side when the tide was flooding with about a 50-60+ ft leader. I would hang the weight about 3ft below the mainline and drop it to the bottom so that the cut plug was well below the surface and would rotate in the flowing tide. I might have a few stored away, I will have a look later to day.
Luhr Jensen made the silver release one.. I was told that peetz came out with the brass version first..Somewhere in one of my old tackle boxes I have a metal one that works the same way but is spring loaded. It's about 3" long and there is swivels on both ends. It's about a 1/4" round and there is a slot on the round part where you hang the weight/rocks. The fish hits and pulls the spring loaded pin and the weight drops and it's just you and the fish. I'll try and find it and get a picture.
Yes that is the exact one I have.View attachment 48400 These

View attachment 48398 Yeah in the 70’s Dad would have these on our rods with 320z lead balls. I think Scotty made them...
