I made one from a 11/0 halibut hook grind the barb down then tie a ganyon on eye leave about 10 inchs with a 1 lb ball then on the top of shank tie another ganyon to a quick realease send it down on downrigger OR the weight 1 guick pull fish is at the depth DFO saw my set up and said what a great idea , CHEAP easy and works ,,,,, just like me!!!! LOL

When you are boarded by coast guard, dfo or the Rcmp do they allow home made devices or is that a ticket waiting to happen?

There's a deep-water version on FB right now for $60 ask:

What's the matter you thought better of your other reply? Sounds like this is something you tried.

All I have is a peace of wire, it does the job, never been checked, but it’s out and ready to go when I am Hali fishing, not to many yellow eye around where I fish, got one last year, but it’s a surprise

i am positive if you have one made that fits the correct application, they will accept it. you are required to have it "ready to deploy" . if they questioned it, show them!! i have one for down rigger in my hali box. another set up on a rod butt from a busted rod with an ancient reel on it. clip on the 2lb weight and it works.

I wouldn't buy a used one. I've gone through a couple and I'm a stickler when it comes to giving them a good fresh water rinse after use.

Totally agree.
If have screwed around in the past with a number of 'compliance' descenders and now use a seaquilizer.
I rinse it religiously, but having that pumpkin go down easily and staying down is worth the purchase price every time.
In this case, I have found the money to be worth it.

nope I have been checked by 3 diferent times in 3 different places and they all liked it and approved it

Last year they boarded me as I was targeting lings only and he asked for it I showed him , he looked over my clients lic and said whoa where did you get the salmon !!!?? as area 12 has regs you do NOT want to deal with .... told them they got them that AM of serpentine... He asks where is that?? as he never heard of that told him back side on minstrel island ..
He then asked where my tape was for measuring I said I have this I got my sheet metal guy make me a alum L shaped piece its about 2 inchs high tab on one end then flat all the way to 100 cm and about 6 inchs wide and it has a 65 cm zip saw mark and a 80 cm mark etched in and its perfect as it lays flat on bottom of boat and can measure the salmon and ling easly

Used the inverted hook with a 2lb cannon ball. It worked but was awkward. Then I pulled up a large yellow eye. Two pounds was not enough! Ended up losing a bunch of mooching weights before I got the fish down. Bought a Seaqualizer.
