......with hooks flipping out isn’t the best idea with kids on board who want to be part of the action.
I don't think I posted this before. Our Dad was a pediatrician and he went out of his way to avoid being known as a Doctor away from the office especially at the cottage.
At the cottage Dad was busy pulling fish hooks out of kids faces and bodies - usually the barbed triples.
People would arrive at the cottage with their kid still hooked and attached to the rod . No one ever thought to cut the line before putting their kid in the car, or walking them up to our cottage . Rapalas and those red and white spinners seemed to be the lures of choice.
Somethimes if people were using minnows or worms the bait was still on the hook attached to the kid.
One time our neighbour took his elderly father fishing and showed up at our dock a few hours later.
My dad had to pronounce the neighbour's father.
They were out fishing and the father said to his son (who was in his late 40's),
"I think I will lie back here and watch the birds." He fell asleep and never woke up.
My dad always said he thought that was a wonderful way to die.
