Another Hawg hits the Leader Board!

This Lady (for Lady She Is!) had never landed a Tyee despite 7 years of looking off our Coast, up to River's Inlet, and even the Charlotte's. Handled the rods and fish better than 90% of the men I have fished with, a REEL Pro! Methinks she was well overdue when this Bad Boy came along! He cleared the water up to 8 feet no less than 6 times, yet she managed to tame the Beast! Welcome to the Tyee Club Gal!!

Now... Got Get 'Em Gentz! [^]

One boat got 8 and another got over 30. You know where we are headed. I was posting after celebratory drinks with my # 2 after his 50 lber.

Congrats to your #2 on the 50 lber. Heard about the other 50 a couple of weekends ago.

Dude I wish I wasn't so busy at work I would play hooky and go as a buddy boat out there for those albies[:p]. Go get em and post some pic's and a report:D!!!

Heres a clip for motivation;).

Those sure don't look like my Yankee fish - Those look like they might be Robertson?

Nice job! :D

Have to agree Charlie on them looking like local fish.
The 37.3 on the scale sure looks a lot like a Nahmint fish not a Robertson. Nice to see:D. Nog you may be able to correct me on that if I am mistaken?

Either way nice looking fish for sure!!

No place I would rather be (FISH ON)

Near impossible to look at a spring and say where its from. That run off Ukee seems to be almost entirely whites/marbles though which makes me think vedder, harrison but who knows.

Right now Kelly we are getting a lot od reds @ Portland Pt, which is closer in towards shore. I do believe that these are the Robertson fish finally arriving

I agree kelly It is" Near impossible to look at a spring and say where its from". I only jumped in on this one because of the fish on the scale. It reminds me very much of the Nahmint fish we would see now and then.( after the run was all but wiped out.:(:() As you probably know those fish were distinctively short and fat.We used to call them "Nahmint footballs".We released a few of those over the years.

Those fish were chiefly whites or marbles. Suspect that they are late Fraser fish. As in quite late - the past several years those have wandered by chiefly by mid-August.

Tofino: Nice to hear the larger reds are finally showing! Hope they stick around long enough for the Ukee Fish Off! [}:)]

Cheers,
Nog

Jencourt
read this post after i posted mine , yes , very true , these fish are shorter and fatter typically , the fraser fish are longer , and have pointier heads , and we did have 2 -4 of these caught at south bank , when threre side by side , you see a total difference , again , my opinion,

I am planning a coho trip for September 17-19. Can any one tell me whether Ucluelet or Tofino would be the best bet. Thanks.

I'm heading to Ukee tomorrow for one last kick at the can before putting the boat away for the year.

Sounds like Barkley is pretty quiet right now? Last year at this time it was pretty much big Coho at the Wreck and feeder Springs on South Bank. Are there still any big Springs being taken?

chachi...

Although a bit "north" of Ukee, the fishing was apparently outstanding at Portland late last week. I was out on Saturday and there was TONS of bait around but pretty rough seas. We managed 3 quick springers when the bite turned on and then a puker forced us in. I wouldn't doubt that things will be good still offshore if the weather cooperates.

Charlie

have you started to see any numbers down south yet , what are ya finding , red , marbles , whites ??? thanks for you google like posts , ur very informed brotha..
It started good, then seems to have just - stopped, at least for me? [?]

Bad enough, I started looking at things. I am thinking our Puget Sound fish are either WAY late... or I need to stop fishing?

Most of ours are red, some marble, and now a days - very, very few whites. A white in Puget Sound, is a VERY rare thing! So rare, if you catch a white on WCVI... I would agree Fraser! Just IMHO

Wind / Wave forecast for Wednesday to Sunday is looking pretty good. Wondering if the guides are heading out to the Rats Nose / Big Bank for Springs at all? Are the big northern Coho showing up at all?

Just got back from Ukee today. Saturday was slow; a couple of hatchery coho and 10 pound spring, all caught at Southbank and the Lighthouse, at 140 feet on the riggers and using tiger prawn hootchies and chrome/blue coyote spoons. Sunday was even slower for us; traveled all over the sound from Kirby to Beale and Toquart bay. Tons of coho were jumping at the Toquart, but no action: Skunked!. Monday it was back to South bank. Hit fish almost immediately.Herring/anchovie on rhys davis teasers did the trick at 170 ft. Brought 10 fish to the boat ranging from 10 to 18 pound coho and spring. All the shallower depths were slow, and we fished 10 to 20 ft off the bottom.
