Mounties in West Kelowna say it does not appear that weather or impairment was a factor in the collision of two boats Wednesday night on Okanagan Lake — a crash that sent a dozen people to hospital.

The incident happened at approximately 8:41 p.m., when West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a two-boat collision on Okanagan Lake, approximately 500 metres south of the William R. Bennett Bridge.

"At this stage, investigators have confirmed that impairment and weather conditions were not factors in the collision. The matter remains under investigation by the West Kelowna RCMP," says Cpl. Devon Gerrits, spokesperson for the West Kelowna RCMP, in a news release.

Firefighters, police, paramedics and search volunteers responded to the scene and helped bring everyone involved to the shore.

“We are grateful for the coordinated response from our partner agencies, which ensured the safe rescue and care of those involved," said Gerrits
