Just a reminder that we're only about 6 months away from having a realistic shot at catching albies again. Here's Birdnest's first tuna of 2012 caught on 7/5/2012. Who will catch the first one this year and on what date? Anyone want a friendly bet on this? Probably can't count me in on the bet since I have an advantage of fishing a bit farther south.

The year before this I caught fish on the 6th of july as well. Shooting for june this year. LOL...no seriously I will be.

Good video!!

Quick question: I know that terafin does not allow sharing of their charts but wouldn't it be ok to share/post images of charts that are long past current? You would think that it would be good advertising for them. I have emailed them questions before but never received a reply from them. What do you think?

That video makes me **** myself! I can see the frustration in your face at my useless buddy Chris!!! LOL!!!

June sounds good. Rest of summer looks a bit hairy until Sept as per usual but will do my best to put a few on ice before the main event.

Shootout info to be released shortly.

We could use a few volunteers and of course sponsors as this years will be bigger and better but I'll run up a seperate post for that.

Just throwing an idea out there for Osama or Nog or anyone else with west coast troller connections.
Run out at night, fish all day, drift the next night, fish the second day till about 5pm, run in. Home by midnight.
The "crew" cark fish and clean the boat on the way in and take turns watching the wheel during runs and drifts, so the skipper can get some sleep and do it all again the next trip. Crew supplies rods and gear and pays for ice. Boat pays for fuel. A couple of the crew would need to be quite knowledgable. $1200/head Crew of 5.
Thoughts? Or are all the worthy boats working the tuna already?

Very interesting, it could not be run as a charter per say due to some limitations but we will definately brainstorm. Could be a blast. Any other ideas feel free to join in!

Just want to make sure you have proper insurance coverage. Most marine commercial policies have trade area limitations, and quite a few stop at 25 miles off shore. Might be good idea to check that out before you set it up.

It's a true PITA to clean fish when underway
and dangerous too-and I can't see doing it unless everything was perfect.

Yea that's what I was getting at, we would definately have to arrange it so that everything checked out.

Dogbreath depending on the seas and boat it would be feasible. Had a few pancake days last year.

I wonder if an 'open seat' sticky ( a la 'ifish.net' )could get posted as we get nearer to the season
Give folks a chance to share costs and be included in the show?

About offshore ins. - Since 2007, I've been getting a 100 mile extension from BC Yacht Ins for the months Jun - Sept. ( they can also extend your Ins. to include 'limited chartering' provided it is NOT the primary use of your vessel ) Just going salmon/hali fishing can put you over the 25 mile limit

I agree that an open seat sticky or separate thread as season gets going would be a great idea to help folks try it out.

I checked my insurance last year before heading out and I'm good for as far as I will ever take my boat. It is a good idea to check before heading out. Also let them know exactly what you plan on doing so there is no miscommunication.

I'm looking into 4 man life rafts this winter and spring and will try to get that one off the list this year. Has anyone else been looking into them or have them? I read the review that Cornfed did on BD. Those Vikings look pretty awesome but they are pricey (what isn't in this game lol).

Well...you friken guys got another one hooked!

After 78 pages of "Tuna Trips", ~11 pages of "Tuna Shoot Out", and 46 pages of "Tuna Talk" I'm obsessed! I've followed most (if not all) the links in these threads and spent hours upon hours reading, researching, watching videos, googling words, abrieveations and acronyms I've never heard of before for definitions. I have links in a favorites file called "Tuna Gear", a file called "Tuna Techniques", a file called "Weather and Chloro Links". Now I'm even lurking in BDOutdoors (Bloody Decks).

I've spit shined the old boat and preparing her for sale while I spend about 60 minutes every morning shopping for a bigger boat and researching the boats and engines up for offer. I've moved through the 24' boats and now looking at 30' 'ers with twins - is there a support group that I can contact to help me through this??? Other than you bunch of #$@& enablers! :)

A sincere THANK YOU, though, to all you guys and you're willingness to share experiences/information with the rest of us!

I will be joining the fleet in the near future - come hell or high water - and looking forward to meeting you all.

Cheers
Scott

Just a bunch of enablers. lol

The only help one can expect is a job, bad water and chloro charts/weather and whatever else can keep you off the water. Good luck curving the urge!

Your in the same boat as I was a few of years ago. 2 years of reading before I got invited out for my first trip on another boat. A year after that first trip to research and get my own boat ready for the 3 trips I did last year. The only cure is bankruptcy lol.

You will thank yourself for doing all the research and reading up on it (good on ya for doing so). If you have taken in anything from all of it, I hope the safety stuff sticks to your brain like super glue because that is the most important part. The fishing is secondary really. You think your going nuts now, wait till your first hook up out there lol!!!

Blood Decks has some great threads in the Washington section and the ifish forum (Oregon related mostly) has ton's of information on albacore fishing.

Cheers,
John
