Tuna Cord Crimper Tool

The swivels on my tuna cords are wearing out and I want to replace them.
Do I need a specific crimping tool for that? Or is there something in the toolbox
that gets the job done?

If you fish a lot with riggers, it is worth buying the proper tool. It is even worth buying two. Leave one on the boat and have one at home for working on gear while watching TV, they are not pricey. A poor crimp on your terminal gear, and you could find the cost of the loss of gear would have more than paid for the proper tool. I use them for all sorts of things: making release clip rigs, making and repairing rigger terminal gear, closing the eye on hooks with slow steady pressure that protects against the hook breaking at the eye while playing a fish etc. Every rigger fisherman should have at least one pair. Almost all BC coastal fishing stores carry them.

timely topic - I've been thinking about the same thing!
Any recommended online sources? No fishing stores are conveniently close to where I live.

I like a neat double barrel copper crimp and a spro 2/0 swivel. I use the bolt cutter size crumpets that can crimp 3/16” wire rope /cable

If you are going to attach it to steel cable, you are still going to need to crimp the cable to the swivel.

Sure but I am talking abut tuna chord. Seem silly to crimp it.

I don't use a swivel at all on mine but then I run braid. Just use palomer knot in braid attached to overhand loop. Owen (Fish assassin) was 100% right on that setup. A lot of these tuna chord systems I see on down riggers are really overkill.

Channel lock 909 crimping pliers do a great job of the Scotty wire crimps
Closest thing there is to perfect crimping tool, according to my auto electrical tech friend. I have two pairs, one in the shop and one in the tool backpack.
