Trophy Titan or Rapala Classic Moocher?

Anyone heard anything positive or negative about these two rods? I know they are fairly new to the market. I am having a bit of an issue figuring out what I want to invest in as far as a good mooching rod is concerned.

Thanks for any replies...sorry for all the mooching rod questions, as seen in previous posts.

The tackle shop I go to told me the guy who makes the Trophy rods used to make rods for Sage. I looked at the rods and they are nicely made. I'm in the market for a new rod as well. I think I'm going with the Fetha Styx motor moocher. I have a 5 weight Fetha Styx fly rod and love it. Very nice quality. High end components. No complaints with it at all. I figure his salmon rods are the same quality.

Depepnds on what you are looking for.... the titan is the replacement to the sage series of saltwater rods but at a fair price...the same fellow that designed the Sage saltwater series of mooching rods had his hands in the design of thoses rods..nice rod & have not heard any complains yet... Which is the model numbers of the Rapala you looking at? I know they have up graded the one series of rods and they look good but really haven't been on the water yet... :)

I believe they are a good Rod....Searun is a Rapala field tester & can give you a little more insight as he has fished them...I found the med/heavey model a little much for me as I little a med. action rod guy...Rapala has introducted a med. model this year and felt like a nice rod..... :)

Tx, yes I tested the Classic moocher for past 2 seasons. Solid rod, no issues and nice action, which is medium light, so slightly more beef than the technium. I have been begging the guys to come up with a lighter version with same action as the Techniums and they now have introduced for this season the light version which I have not yet fished. I do like the larger handle, they stayed away from the narrow corks, and went with a handle you can actually hold onto.

I ended up buying the trophy titan 3106 power moocher/down rigger rod....I got a great deal on it and bang for the buck I couldn't pass it up.

I bought the 4106 Titans last year and like them better than the Gloomis 1265 I had been using..
some of that is just personal preference;
Shape of foregrip cork, reel seat w lock nut, and larger rounder butt end of rod ( the abs aren't what they used to be..sigh )
For power and sensitivity - I barely notice a diff

There are some new Amundson Savvy Sumo rods coming out that sound really sweet. They should be available by the end of the month. I'm going to try a couple out as soon as they show up :).

I have 4 of the rapala classic moochers in mid/light and I love them great rods!!!!!

don't titans still snap? the old trophy xl before these came out were more durable maybe it got fixed last year? That would be my only hesitation.... for a rod over 200.00

Well ive never had one SNAP not like the HMX ....imo
been using this rod for about 3 years now and all winter long .BUT i also bring the line in with the downrigger when cranking up unless a fish pops it of of course. I see guys who set the pins so tight then boom rod blows up trying to take of riggers.
and ill admit ive got quite a few fish doing it this way cause the gear is still working with the rigger bringing it up. also any weeds are caught at where the clip is easier to take off.

Dont get me wrong LOVE the loomis but since shimano took it over quality and service in my opnion is gone WAY down....

I have been really careful with my trophy titan too lower the cannonball to release the clip rather then yank it out of the clip.. after I broke the tip off my last one... then after returning home from fishing on sunday I went to take my titan apart..just a little algae on the line I guess cause when pulled the two rod sections apart I made it into a 3 piece by busting the tip off ....F*&*&*&*(.. I took it in but have to wait to hear if the trophy representative will warranty it a second time.. talk about bull in a china shop..i purchased a trophy xl in 9' to replace the titan for now... I really love that titan but damn they are sensitive..ttsa90... be very careful with them ..

It was the origonal 3113 that was breaking in the titans. If you have one of them they will exchange it no queations asked. I have a 3106 center pin rod and it is nice but it aint no sage. Not a big fan of the butts they put on those rods either

I totally understand I am just saying it seems weird that you pay 200+ for a rod it snaps just popping of the down rigger if yanked to hard. In my opinion the trophy XL rods are way stronger.... Just heard a few snapping Titans and decided to hold off....

I always pop the rod off and I have had these Trophy XL rods for 5 seasons... Including the shimano convergence models. Not a snap and i have abused them in some cases. I do like the Titans though and maybe it was a design flaw that was corrected now.... That is interesting what you said about keeping on rigger when bringing up.
