Hopefully the Rapala mooching rod is better built than their mooching north coast reel. What a pile of junk that thing is, waste of money and now it's sitting on the bottom of crocroft channel!
I checked those reels out when they first came out. Felt cheap and tinny to me. We run trophy qr reels and I have a few custom reels that see a bit of use. For the same price as a convergence, pick up both in each hand and I guarantee you that you will pick the rapala.
I also have a technium, no complaints there and some glass diawa rods. I have an old diawa samurai that is one of my prized possessions!
I run shimano Techniums now, WSS had them on sale $129.00 for the 10'6" which is pretty good price I think. Pretty happy with them, have black and silver Amundsen TMX4 reels on them, looks pretty sweet.
Hey Bill, they are a MH 15-25 lb weight with a nice solid rubber butt. Very happy with them and seem pretty tough, which is good because my crew is really rough on them.
Has anyone taken a chance on the new Rapala Shift mooching reel? The NC 1's were a little on the light side and had the issue with the springs but these seem to be a nice step up.
The drag knob looks a little small for my liking. Another short coming on the north coast design. Been burnt bad by my last Rapala reel, so if I ever own another Rapala product it will only be one with hooks on it!
Ran the new with the upgraded springs that were American made and they were good. Still would be using them if I didn't get a good deal on islanders. Those new ones look good. But the drag and the knows look the same as the nc1. Must of just changed the spool and housing.
Vanisland- I got them at crappy tire in Van for $99. You can use the website to check inventory at different store locations. I got the last 3 on the mainland other than one in Chilliwack.
