Trollmaster Recall

Yes I have a link bar that I have used if my TR1 has had an issue. The Furuno did not correct quick enough to stay on track and alarm would sound.
I ended up taking the wheel.
The tr1 is an absolute pos. No offense. It is a true beauty in the world of garbage.

I'm talking permanent link to your mains.

Most auto pilots need a rudder feedback in order to maintain side shifting and currents etc etc. The 711 and the 300 ap both have what's called fantom feedback. Which will help with that. Use it along with the scx20 sat compass and you will almost solve that issue. I'm assuming you are using a magnetic compass?

I am using whatever compass was provided with the 711c package.
I have a solid link bar that ties the mains to the kicker. It is removable.
I am curious as to why you feel the TR1 is a POS? Mine is 18 years old and works flawlessly. One pump failure 5 years ago. Holds a perfectly straight tack. Have you had problems with one yourself?

I'm really surprised that you had 2 furuno techs on your boat and neither one knew that you have the wrong compass for your application. Surprised also that they would even ever recommend a kicker only auto pilot. You can buy the 711c with or without the pg700 fluxgate compass. The pg700 compass does not work well inside an aluminum boat apllication. You will get magnetic interference.

I have a call into my installation tech but I have to assume they would install the correct compass. They are one of the largest Furuno dealers in the area.
Did you have an issue with your TR1? Do you troll on your mains or kicker?
Aluminum is non magnetic so not sure why that would be a problem but I will ask when I talk to him.

Since this if getting way off topic here from the OP, I would suggest making a thread for yourself.

Call furuno they will tell you the same thing I told you. To do what you want to do an scx20 is the answer. The 711c is a great unit, however it is packed with features that a smaller boat user will never need. They should have sold you a 300 with an scx20.

I did call Furuno tech support this morning.
They did say that the sat compass is a better unit but it wasn't yet available when I purchased my 711c. He also said the magnetic compass I have should be fine with my boat. I will probably upgrade to the new Garmin kicker AP when I repower this fall. My old one has been a great unit for almost 20 years. Definitely not a POS.
Thanks for all your help

i switched last year , you will love it , holds speed like a rock , zero isuues used over 100 times now , dial right beside my rear helm wheel , no more tap tap tap ,idle button when ya hook a big fish ,memory resume button when your done , and ! a full thrust momentary button when your in a pickle lol , smooth easy dial at your finger tips , best mod , right up there with the diesel heater Pat...highy recommend it
Thanks, really leaning towards the hard wired version. Get tired of the rpm's dropping off when you turn the helm wheel - seems to be a chronic issue with stretching the control cable on harder turns. I'm always bumping up or down the speed to make sure we are in the groove. Will be nice to have something that holds the rpms more stable. Had some difficulty finding them, although it appears there may be some in the US. Going down for a Sea Hawks game shortly, so we will stop in at Cabalas for a look see.

Exact same problem I was having once you put it in gear you will never use the throttle again , It’s pretty much as good as the troll feature Mercury has , love it

Yeah, maybe 4-6 hours of trolling? I keep a sleeve of Amazon AAA on the boat.
I was reading this earlier in the week and haven’t changed the batteries all summer but just my luck they died today 🤪

I couldn’t get the clip the remotes comes with to stay on so I 3d printed a couple holders for the remote. They have worked great all summer!!

Wicked. I was watching a video on how far things had come with home 3D printing and thought to myself maybe a few things for the boat. Would love one of those. And maybe a holder for a dozen batteries, weird how some remotes are great and others are weak. Once my YouTube channel hits 1000 subscribers I’ll hit them up for a replacement remote.

Ya it’s crazy what you can print and how well it stands up. Once my kids stop printing crap/toys for their friends I will print you a holder.
