Practiced catch and release today, except I wanted to catch and bonk. Released 1 beside the boat and 3 further out.All these fish were quality. Finally netted a 32lb. fat boy. Water was choppy and had rough 1 hour ride in both directions but worth it. It was hot, P.M. me for details.:D

Brisco , are you launching from Vancouver and running across? Ive never gone over to Thrasher, i have and 18 welded alum do you think it would be safe to do the cross?

What kind of aluminum boat ? Do you have a back up engine ? Whats your fuel capacity? Electronics, Safety gear? Skill and experience on the water is also important. Even though I have good boat and 30+ years on the water I am more relaxed going across with another boat. Smack a log at 27m.p.h. and rip off my drive could send the boat to the bottom real quick. Its 20 miles from the North Arm to where we went today, anything can happen on the water. I launch at MacDonald Beach and if you are ever serious about going over P.M. me.

Good work Brisco!

;)

Hey Brisco, I am definately interested in crossing over to thrasher for some fishing and havent done it yet.Absolutely seems like a good idea to cross with another boat. What type of mph do you cross at? Sunday seemed to have a nasty northwesterly swell when we crossed from qa to atkinson probably would have been a scary crossing to thrasher.

My speed depends on who is in the boat and water conditions. My ideal cruise speed is 27 m.p.h. but most times with a chop 21 is the norm.

OK thanks, I seem to run at about 17-18 in pretty rough water comfortably. I think I need some tabs to set up nice for big water travel. Ever heard or know of smart tabs?

[/quote]That's about the same speed that I do.
I slowed down for a log halfway back but it turned out to be a killer whale.

Jimbo...a little off topic, but I've got Smart Tabs on my boat. Can't really say whether they make a difference, as they were there when I bought it. I definitely wish I had proper trim tabs though. You can't trim side to side or bow down etc. They work in theory (you can read up on them on the web)...but I believe they are more of a gimick.

I agree, hydrolic or electric like Bennetts is the way to go.Don't run too high a pitch prop so you can stay on plane at slower speed. Try and move gear around in boat so center of gravity is good. I relocated my 2 batteries because they were on the same side as the kicker. I then didn't have to apply corrective tab that was scraping about 1 m.p.h. off my cruise speed.

I have a 19 ft Glasply CC with a 150 Opti. After installing a kicker, I was having a problem with porpoising. I installed the smart tabs and no more problem. Sure worked for me.

Brisco Any pictures of the monster 32lb Chinook you got of Thrasher?

Was the lure of choice a Hootchie or spoon ?

Thanks guys, I too have the batteries and the kicker on the same side, however it is not as easy a change over for me, I need tabs to help balance the boat in bigger seas, it piches to port slightly. Definately should correct this before I start running back and forth to thrasher. My boat is an 18'6 Double Eagle 150 yammy.[8D]

No pics, small head short and shaped like a football.I've been too cheap to replace our broken digital. All bites and fish were on chovie.

Jimbo, Thats an awesome boat buddy. My father bought a new one at Richardson Marine in 1980. We went all up and and across the Strait in all kinds of water. That boat deserves decent tabs.

Well done brisco! I was the trophy with the blue top fishin there from 7:30am till around 4:00 in the afternoon, we never had a sniff? At least the run back to Tsawwassen was smooth.

We had a choppy ride back at 12:30ish. I wonder why you didn't have any luck. I believe you were closer in than us and fished a lot against the wind? We had all hits in the span of 2.5 hours.I would like to go this weekend but the winds look bad.

Ya that was me,I tried fishing the track I ran last year to bad it was in to the wind, besides that mistake, with all the spoon luck over at bowen I pretty much fished every spoon in my box till around 3:00 then I went back to old faithfull anchovie to little to late I guess. My buddy ran herring first then he was trying spoons most of the day. It's silly, I've always been an chovie fisherman till the end of last season in bamfield were I did way better with spoons,so I carried over to this season here worked well at bowen second time I was out this year, but I think I'll go brine a wack of chovie's for the next trip.

Grr Bloody Wind!:( Brisco we have to plan on flying kites on the weekend and trick Mother Nature, so we get a calm day. Yeah kite flying that's the ticket! I definitely hopes it's windy this weekend so I can fly my kite.;)

I just checked David K. report from Sunday by an associate. Wind was blowing hard but they hooked a 25 and a 20 in the first 45 minutes. They were off the Grande about 2 miles. They went in close but caught nothing, went back out and caught a 12 right away. Then they quit. 125 feet down
