Being a meteorologist (weatherman) must be the most boring, least satisfying occupation out there, next to accounting. So creating some drama with the names perhaps provides some relief from the tedium. You are so right, though: our society is very excitable and easily outraged. Even the weather will "trigger" a few, I'm sure.
 
I don’t think it’s prudent to discount meteorologists these days, especially if you’re a boater. Weather patterns do what they’ve always done in the Northwest based on the season, but the overall weather seems to be more abrupt and more intense. Everytime I was warned this past August that things were going to get sporty, things got REAL sporty and I was glad I took the outlooks seriously and found a hidey hole.

I live on the water and last Thursday night, when the first bit of wind hit, it was indeed like a bomb going off...like going from breathless calm to shiat stuck to the ceiling... it bowed in the window panes of my house and launched oars and salmon nets in my back yard....then 10 minutes later it was gone.....my first thought was....glad I’m not in the Straits of JDF right now....reading abut that container ship didn’t surprise me

I remember people discounted all the media fervor of the last really big windstorm the northwest got in 1993 ....I went out in my neighborhood the next morning and saw houses chopped in half by trees...like lots of them
 
Well, that damn heat dome was certainly out of the ordinary but this next low pressure system just looks like a good old fashioned winter storm. Power outages and rivers flooding, we have seen that plenty of times before.
 
Wind ?? Well as of 3:30 Sunday we have had approximately 5 minutes of thunder and lightning and a large burst of rain just north of Courtenay . Its almost calm now, and the sun is shining. Might get snotty tonight and tomorrow morning, but I have my doubts
 
sheet lightning and thunder happening in bam.. power is still on!
